Upgrade for the VW Touran

The Volkswagen Touran MPV turns twenty this month - and the people mover still offers plenty.

When the Touran was first unveiled back in March 2003, VW said it was ‘more than a family car’.

Fast forward two decades, and that boast remains as true as ever, and the versatile Touran is an affordable seven-seat alternative to cars like the Ford S-Max, Citroen Grand C4 Spacetourer, or the new Dacia Jogger.

Now the Touran - which is also available to lease with five seats - has been treated to what VW is calling an ‘extensive technical upgrading and model updating’.

So, what does this facelift boil down to? Well, a lot of it involves keeping you and your passengers safe on the road.

You can now expect the list of standard features to incllude VW’s ‘PreCrash’ system, which closes the electric windows, shuts the sunroof and tightens the front seat belts when it senses that a prang is imminent, as well as a safety-boosting multi-function camera.

The optional ‘IQ.DRIVE incl. IQ.LIGHT’ package now includes, among other things, the Travel Assist driver assist system lane departure warning, which helps to keep you centred in your lane and out of harm’s way.

The clever ‘Dynamic Light Assist’ spots oncoming vehicles and then automatically fades out corresponding areas of the vehicle's main beam so that you don’t dazzle other unsuspecting road users, and when you’re driving into a built-up area, the system drops the lights from main beam to dipped beam.

There’s a new touch-sensitive steering wheel and a new instrument cluster in the cabin.

Meanwhile there are also improvements to the Touran’s powertrain - a 1.5 litre TSI petrol engine that comes with power of 150 PS.

Not only is that unit now more efficient and less polluting in terms of CO2 emissions, it’s also designed for ‘fuels with renewable content’ - aka ‘eFuels’ - making it future-proof, too. You can expect a return of 42 miles to the gallon.

The Touran is super practical, too, coming with enough space in the back to fit three child ISOFIX seats and with a whopping 1,980 litres of luggage space with the seats folded flat.

You can lease a Volkswagen Touran with Select Car Leasing from just £428 per month*.

*Prices include VAT. Credit is Subject to Status, Ts and Cs and Arrangement Fees apply. Excess mileage may apply. Stock levels and prices correct as of 30/03/23.

I could not recommend Select enough and the amazing service I had from my consultant Shane Newton. Shane regularly updated me on progress of my new vehicle, and was always so helpful in answering any queries I had regarding my order throughout the whole process - no question was silly - he always responded promptly whether that be through email or phone call. I just received my new vehicle last week, and Shane was in contact right away to ensure the handover was seamless and that I was happy with my new vehicle! Needless to say I was very happy with the earlier than anticipated delivery - Christmas has came early! This is my second vehicle with Select and yet another excellent service. I could not fault anything and want to thank Shane once again for all of his help!
