- Sits alongside Volvo EX90 SUV flagship
- Gets 435-mile range

Is it a saloon? Is it a fastback? Is it an SUV? Whatever it is, it’s the glorious new Volvo ES90!
The segment-defying Volvo ES90 has been revealed in full this week, priced from £69,650. You’ll be able to lease one imminently.
It’s a fully-electric flagship for the Scandinavian manufacturer which will take its place at the top of the Volvo tree alongside the EX90 SUV.
Three distinct variants are up for grabs; Single Motor Extended Range (92 kWh battery), Twin Motor (106 kWh battery) and Twin Motor Performance (106 kWh battery).
The Single Motor model gets a range of up to 403.9 miles between charges while the Twin Motor and Twin Motor Performance both enjoy a max 435-mile range.
The ES90 is underpinned by 800-volt electric architecture, the sort that allows for rapid charging at speeds up to 350 kW, and which can replenish the energy in the battery from 10 to 80 per cent in around 20 minutes. A heat pump is fitted as standard.
There’s a whole heap of power available whichever ES90 you choose.
The Single Motor Extended Range develops 333 hp and has the ability to sprint from 0-62 mph in 6.9 seconds, while the Twin Motor Performance ups the oomph to 680 hp and can whistle from 0-62 mph in just 4.0 seconds, which is almost as quick as the BMW i5 M60.
Another obvious rival is the Polestar 3, which is equally rapid with the Performance pack.
The ES90 has a ‘confident and distinctive stance, says Volvo, with a slightly raised ride height to give a more commanding view of the road. There are ‘Thor’s Hammer’ headlights (very Volvo), C-shaped LED rear lamps, and a large and wide tailgate hatch for easy loading.
You get a 446-litre boot with a 22-litre front trunk while all of the seats in the rear can be folded down individually.
As you’d expect from a Volvo flagship, premium materials abound and the list of standard-fit equipment is extensive.
The entry-level ‘Plus’ trim brings you a 20-inch alloys, panoramic roof, 14.5-inch centre display with Google services built-in, heated seats in the front and rear, heated steering wheel, four-zone climate control, a 360-degree camera, head-up display, power tailgate, and a Bose Premium sound system.
You also get Volvo’s semi-automated ‘Pilot Assist’ tech which keeps you centred in your lane and maintains a safe distance to the car in front - as well as a host of other safety software, ably assisted by the ES90’s array of one lidar, five radars, seven cameras and 12 ultrasonic sensors.
The range-topping ‘Ultra’ adds extras like active air suspension, a Bowers & Wilkins High Fidelity audio system, and an electrochromic panoramic roof that goes from opaque to clear at the touch of a button.
Jim Rowan, Volvo CEO, said: “The Volvo ES90 combines our most advanced technologies with Scandinavian design and superior comfort, creating a true premium Volvo car designed to elevate your quality of life. It joins the EX90 SUV as one of our flagship models and cements our position as an industry leader in software-defined cars that harness the power of core computing.”
We’ll bring you Volvo ES90 leasing deals as soon as we get them.
