Volkswagen has given the clearest view yet of the new Amarok pickup truck, destined to arrive in the UK in 2023.
While the newly released teaser is still nothing more than a rendered image, the manufacturer has added more detail, including dimensions; at 5.35m long, it’s 10cm longer than the previous generation model.
The "near-production sketches" clearly show the profile of the truck, highlighting some aggressively extended wheel arches and low-profile tyres. While neither of these are likely to make it to the production vehicles, expect a toned-down version that shares the same basic DNA that the design makes obvious.
“We emphasise the different, expressive front designs of our pick-up with a charismatic Amarok signature that is also found with very large letters on the cargo box at the rear and is sported very proudly by the Amarok,”
says Albert-Johann Kirzinger, head of design at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.
“The styling bar as a visual extension of the double cab in the cargo box once again gives the Amarok’s body dynamic, aerodynamic and very strong proportions.”
The new Amarok will continue to feature V6 power, with Volkswagen confirming that the pickup, squarely targeting the premium market, will receive a six-cylinder turbodiesel power unit. An increase in power and torque over the previous model is expected, but Volkswagen has yet to confirm figures.
The manufacturer promises that numerous driver assistance systems will be fitted to the new Amarok, many for the first time in the segment, and that these will make daily driving more comfortable for customers. The comfort, connectivity and ambience in the completely new interior will also ensure that the new Amarok raises the benchmark for pickups.
With the Amarok sharing the same platform and drivetrain as the next-generation Ford Ranger, improved off-road performance is also assured.
The new Volkswagen Amarok will be revealed in full later this year, with customer deliveries expected in early 2023.
