Take a look at the new Volkswagen ID.X Performance, a new electric ‘sports limousine’ with power and pace to spare.
The ID.X Performance is a show car that’s being displayed at a meeting of VW ID enthusiasts in Locarno, Switzerland, this week.
And rather than being a standalone vehicle in its own right, the ID.X Performance is very much an excuse for VW to highlight its new ID.7 saloon (below), which is due to be available to lease in the coming weeks.
The ID.7 is an upmarket ‘limousine’ that’ll have a range of up to 435 miles and which will compete with the BMW i4 and the Tesla Model 3.
The ID.X Performance is built on the same modular electric drive platform as the ID.7, but it has been handed a more aggressive bodykit and lots more power.
It sits 60mm lower than the ID.7 and has stiffer springs for a more spirited ride. The ID. X Performance also gets 20-inch sports alloys and a huge carbon wing at the rear.
Meanwhile power of 558 PS is channelled to all four wheels and there’s a rear axle differential lock to put the energy where you need it on the road.
Ultra-rapid charging at speeds of up to 200kW should also replenish the battery in double-quick time.
In the cabin, the ID.X Performance has carbon bucket seats and red accents galore.
Will there actually be an ‘X Performance’ of the ID.7 when it launches this autumn..? Only time will tell.
But what we do know is that the regular ID.7 will have power of at least 280 PS and it’ll come fully loaded with a suite of driver assistance and safety tech, including adaptive cruise control and lane assist.
