It was the best-selling car of 2021 - and now the Vauxhall Corsa is also well on the way to becoming the most in-demand vehicle of 2022 as well.
It’s yet another sign that the Corsa is out-punching its fiercest adversary - the Ford Fiesta.
For years, the Corsa and Fiesta were locked in a Rocky-style tangle at the top of the sales charts, and it was traditionally always the Ford that was victorious.
In fact, when the Fiesta was named the UK’s best seller in 2020 it marked the 12th year it had done so.
But all that changed in 2021, when the Corsa got its proverbial elbows out and started to muscle-in on the Fiesta’s dominance.
Now stats from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has confirmed the Corsa is leading the pack once again when it comes to sales for the first half of 2022 - with 22,212 units sold in total.
The all-electric Corsa-e has also been named the best-selling electric supermini for the first half of the year, with 2,677 registrations in 2022.
Paul Willcox, Managing Director, Vauxhall, said:
“The Vauxhall Corsa was the UK’s best-selling car last year, and we’re on track for another stellar year. The first six months have been difficult for the whole industry, but Vauxhall remains a firm favourite with UK buyers. The second half of the year will see the roll-out of our All-New Astra and Astra Sports Tourer – two new models that showcase our new design language, innovative technologies, and our commitment to electrification.”
The Corsa-e is powered by a 50kWh battery with power of 136 PS and a decent range of up to 222 miles on a single charge. With 100 kW rapid charging, you can also replenish the battery to 80% in just 30 minutes. How does this work you say? Take a look at our guide on charging an electric car for the detials.
If you’re considering alternatives to the Corsa-e, you should also take a look at the Peugeot e-208 and the MINI Electric.
The traditionally-fuelled Corsa, meanwhile, offers some steady power and a well put-together interior. The powertrain you arguably want is the 1.2 litre turbocharged petrol unit with 100 PS, which is available on range-topping ‘Ultimate’ models.
Meanwhile even base ‘Design’ variants get an abundance of kit as standard.
That includes 16 in alloy wheels and safety tech such as speed sign recognition and forward collision alert.
You can lease a Vauxhall Corsa with Select Car Leasing from around £185 per month.
