In need of a practical electric estate? We have good news, because order books have just opened on the new Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer Electric.
The battery-powered Vauxhall Astra hatchback arrived earlier this year, and you can lease one with Select from £559 per month*.
And now its bigger-booted sibling, the Sports Tourer Electric, has pulled-in to offer lease customers even more versatility.
There’s a dearth of electric estates on the market right now, so the addition of the Astra Sports Tourer Electric is a welcome one indeed.
You’ll be able to order it with Select in the coming days, with deliveries due in the spring of 2024, and it’ll rival cars like the MG5 EV and the Peugeot e-308 SW estate.
The Astra Sports Tourer Electric comes with a 54 kWh battery that equates to power of 156 hp and a range between charges of up to 256 miles. That range figure isn’t bad at all, with the MG5 managing a maximum of 250 miles between trips to the plug.
Perhaps most importantly, you get 516 litres of luggage space. That’s down on the 608 litres you get with the petrol-powered Astra estate, and also slightly less than the MG5’s 578 litres, but should be plenty enough.
Like lots of other Vauxhalls, the Astra electric estate gets the firm’s trademark ‘Vizor’ front end, as well as 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, as standard.
Vauxhall also reckons the electric Astra will handle better than its petrol equivalent, thanks to a stiffer chassis and new rear axle design built to accommodate the battery pack.
The Astra Sports Tourer Electric isn’t particularly quick, accelerating from 0-62mph in 9.2 seconds, but it’ll be brisk enough to keep up with traffic. It also supports 100 kW DC rapid charging, with a 20%-80% charge taking just 26 minutes to complete.
Plug it into a 7kW home wallbox and you can expect a full replenish in around eight hours.
The cabin enjoys a 10-inch digital instrument display and a 10-inch touchscreen with sat nav as standard, and you get front and rear parking sensors as a given. Swankier, range-topping ‘Ultimate’ models also get LED pixel headlights, a head-up display, and a semi-automated lane change assist system.
You’ll need the mid-range ‘GS’ trim if you want adaptive cruise control, heated seats, and a 360-degree camera.
Prices to buy the Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer Electric outright begin at £39,995.
