Top 10 cars to look forward to in 2025

  • Top 10 new cars coming in 2025
  • Mix of EVs and traditionally-fuelled vehicles
  • New affordable Tesla strongly rumoured
  • Cut-price VW ID.2 will also debut

These are the top 10 new cars coming in 2025 - with a list that covers everything from family SUVs to raucous electric hot hatches.

The last 12 months has given lease customers plenty to get excited about.

Petrolheads went potty as the Audi RS 3 made a glorious comeback and we got a rejuvenated VW Golf R.

The automotive world went retro in 2024, with reinventions of cars including the Ford Capri (below), Renault 5 and the Fiat 600.

A clutch of affordable new electric models arrived, in the form of the Dacia Spring and Citroen e-C3, while the Tesla Model Y was also given seven seats.

The year 2024 wasn’t without its controversies. The BMW M5 got a plug-in hybrid engine for the first time, which had some purists shaking their heads, while you’ll likely have your own thoughts about the Jaguar re-brand.

Either way, let’s give a Christmas toast to manufacturers who continue to break the mould and push boundaries as we look forward to another headline-grabbing year in 2025.

Here are the Top 10 cars we expect to see in 2025:

Tesla Model Q

Are we about to get a brand new affordable Tesla with a sub $30,000 (£24,000) price tag? We are if the recent rumours are to be believed.

Tesla boss Elon Musk has blown hot and cold on the idea of a baby Model Y or Model 3 and at points this year appeared to jettison the concept entirely as he focuses on fleets of Robotaxis instead. But news in recent days coming out of California suggests we WILL see a new affordable Tesla in 2025 - and it could be called a ‘Model Q’.

A report - stemming from a chat between Tesla and Deutsche Bank - hints at a car 15 per cent smaller and 30 per cent lighter than a Tesla Model 3.

Two battery configurations of 53 kWh and 75 kWh have also been mooted, though nothing has been confirmed.

We asked Musk’s own AI generator Grok what a Tesla Model Q might look like, and this (above), is what it came back with.

Jaguar Type 00

All publicity is good publicity, right?

And whatever you make of the Jaguar rebrand and the launch of the Type 00 concept, you can’t deny that the British firm has got the entire world on strings.

While we’ve only seen the concept for now, the production-ready Type 00 will be revealed at the back end of 2025.

The four-door GT will have a ‘target’ driving range of up to 478 miles, thanks to an (estimated) 100 kWh battery, while 200 miles of range could be added in as little as 15 minutes. We can’t wait to see what the real-life car actually looks like.

Renault 5 Turbo 3E

Renault has had a barn-storming 2024, racking-up countless industry awards for its Scenic E-Tech while the new Renault 5 E-Tech has gone down a treat, too.

The French firm has found the perfect balance between retro styling and thoroughly-modern design, tugging at our nostalgia-loving heart-strings while welcoming new punters to the fold.

And the incoming electric Renault 5 Turbo 3E will continue the theme.

It’s going into production in 2025 with 500 bhp and the ability to glide from 0-62 mph in 3.5 seconds. Oof.

Ford Ranger PHEV

The rules around double-cab pick-ups are changing. From April 2025 onwards, for tax purposes they’ll be treated as cars instead of commercial vehicles, which means fairly significant hikes in Benefit in Kind (BiK) costs as well as implications for capital allowances and deductions from business profits.

You can read all about that here and our message is to GET YOUR ORDERS IN BEFORE APRIL 2025.

The good news is that a plug-in hybrid version of the Ford Ranger - available to lease imminently and with deliveries in 2025 - will help to soften the blow of the legislation change by offering a significant reduction in CO2 emissions compared with the regular Ranger (we don’t yet know precise CO2 emissions data).

The PHEV Ranger will also have an EV range of around 26 miles, courtesy of a 11.8-kWh battery and a 75kW electric motor.

CUPRA Raval

This little electric rascal has been on the drawing board for a few years now but is finally likely to see the light of day in 2025.

It’s an electric hot hatch based on the ‘Urban Rebel’ concept we first saw in 2021 and it’s more compact than the existing CUPRA Born.

Based on Volkswagen Group’s new small MEB electric platform, the Raval will get 226 PS, a range of up to 273 miles, and the ability to accelerate from 0-62 mph in 6.9 seconds.

It looks menacing and is also a ‘hero of sustainability’, according to CUPRA, built using recycled polymers and bio-based materials.

Dacia Bigster

Set to arrive in the Spring of 2025, the Dacia Bigster is a bigger sibling to the Dacia Duster.

It could also be the UK’s ‘best value’ SUV, according to Dacia, set to cost from around £25,000.

Hybrid and mild-hybrid powertrains will be up for grabs while the Bigster will also get proper all-wheel drive and off-road capabilities.

Scuff-resistant cladding on the exterior will also make it tough enough to withstand anything UK roads - or supermarket car parks - can throw at it.

Jeep Recon

It’s fully-electric, and fully-capable - it’s the new Jeep Recon and it’s coming to the UK in 2025.

The Recon will sit alongside the smaller Avenger in Jeep’s range and you might also consider it an EV alternative to the Wrangler (before the leccy Wrangler arrives in 2027).

It’s got no-nonsense, in-your-face American styling and removable doors for maximum off-road shenanigans.

It could even get power of up to 600 PS alongside a range of up to 373 miles between charges.

Jeep has also hinted that a hybrid version might be up for grabs alongside the electric powertrain, just as we’ve got with the Avenger.

Polestar 5

In 2025, Polestar will take aim at the Porsche Taycan, Audi e-tron GT and the Lotus Emeya with the launch of the Polestar 5 - a stunning all-electric grand tourer.

The production model is based on the Polestar Precept concept car which was unveiled in 2020.

It’ll boast an abundance of recycled materials, including knitted fabric made from plastic bottles and seat upholstery underpinned by flax fibre composites.

The luxury four-seater will have power of up to 884 hp and an expected range of around 310 miles.

VW ID.2

Like the CUPRA Raval (see above) the incoming VW ID.2 will sit on the Volkswagen Group’s entry-level electric platform and could offer affordable EV motoring for the masses.

A more compact alternative to the VW ID.3, the ID.2 is a production version of the ID.2 All concept we saw back in 2023.

While precise details are still to be revealed, VW has already said that it’ll have power of up to 226 PS and a range of up to 280 miles between trips to the plug.

Crucially, VW is targeting a ‘starting price of less than 25,000 euros’ - or £20,500 - which will make it a tempting lease proposition indeed.

A hot GTI version is also expected to arrive in 2026.

Range Rover Electric

The electric Range Rover is undergoing final testing ahead of order books opening early in 2025.

Details are still to be confirmed but the big, luxurious British barge is expected to have a large 100 kWh battery, a range in excess of 300 miles, and power of 530 hp.

Land Rover is confident the Range Rover Electric will surpass the off-road skills of its traditionally-fuelled siblings, and we’ve already seen it blatting up enormous sand dunes in the United Arab Emirates.

And what’s remarkable about the Range Rover Electric is that it looks almost identical to the petrol-powered models, which has gone down well with aficionados.
