Here’s a sneak peek at a festival for petrolheads that accelerates into Suffolk this summer.
The Weekender - organised by automotive specialists Krazy Horse - is a brand new event that will take place on the 7th, 8th and 9th July 2023 at Bardwell, Bury St Edmunds.
The Bury St Edmunds Office of Select Car Leasing is proud to be a sponsor of The Weekender.
An automotive extravaganza, visitors will be able to enjoy some of the most iconic cars and motorcycles ever created, from American muscle and hot rods, to steam vehicles from the early 1900s.
There will also be bikes on display used by TV personality and motoring legend Guy Martin - including an Indian Scout motorcycle used by Guy in Channel 4’s Guy Martin's Wall of Death: Live, in which he set a new world record on the largest Wall of Death ever constructed.
The Weekender is the brainchild of engineer and entrepreneur Paul Beamish. Beamish is the founder of Krazy Horse, a bike and car dealership selling motorcycles from the likes of Indian and Norton, as well as new and used cars from Morgan, Caterham and Dodge and RAM Trucks.
And The Weekender is an extension of the regular car and bike meets that have been held at the Krazy Horse HQ in Bury St Edmunds for almost a decade.
Automotive photographer James Catley - based on the borders of Suffolk, Essex and Cambridgeshire - has been a regular attendee of the Krazy Horse ‘Late Night’ meets.
And James has been kind enough to share some of the images he’s taken over the years to give festival-goers a flavour of what they can expect.
James said: “The Krazy Horse Late Nights always generate a great atmosphere, and I fully expect the same at The Weekender festival. I started attending the Late Nights back in 2018. And the Krazy Horse Late Nights instantly struck me as being something different and unique compared with other car and bike meets, largely because of the huge variety of people you meet there. It’s lively, passionate, and there’s a real buzz, and I think I’ve only missed two or three Late Nights in five years! Krazy Horse also has a real knack for finding incredible bands, including decent local acts, so you can expect good music at The Weekender, too.”
Local businessman Alan Beckett, Principal at the Select Bury St Edmunds Office, says he’s looking forward to The Weekender. He adds: “James’ fantastic pictures really whet the appetite for the event and we can’t wait to attend. We’re all mad about cars here at Select, so sponsoring The Weekender really is a no brainer for us.”
Besides the bikes and cars, guests will be able to enjoy great food, cold beer, and bands including Milk and Alcohol rockers Dr Feelgood, rockabilly outfit The Kopy Katz, and up-and-coming local band The Vitamins.
Krazy Horse has drafted a team of volunteers from Suffolk’s Bardfest annual music festival to launch The Weekender. The festival is a not-for-profit venture that will funnel proceeds back to charities in Suffolk, including The Samaritans and the East Anglian Air ambulance.
Other sponsors of the festival, alongside Select Car Leasing, include Bedfords, ChassisCab Truck Centres, Denny Bros Ltd and 4i Pumping Services Ltd.
Krazy Horse also has showrooms in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, and Welling, south west London.
