Incoming Tesla Roadster could have mind-blowing acceleration!

Plans for a new Tesla Roadster are moving apace, with Elon Musk promising some BIG things for the mega-anticipated convertible.

And will the Roadster be capable of… flying!?

But first, a recap.

We’ve already had a first-gen Tesla Roadster. It was launched back in 2010, based on the chassis of a Lotus Elise, with right-hand drive models getting power of around 288 bhp and a 0-60mph time of 4 seconds.

You’ll probably remember seeing the original Roadster enjoying a jolly into Earth’s orbit, serving as a dummy payload on the maiden flight of the SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket.

The first Roadster is now something of a collector’s item, changing hands for upwards of £175,000 here in the UK.

Now Musk and the Tesla crew are plotting a new and much improved Roadster, with a full reveal promised for later this year.

And, if we’re to believe what we’re hearing, the incoming Roadster will have acceleration to wipe the floor with pretty much every other car on the road.

Tesla’s co-founder and CEO Musk wrote on social media this week that the Roadster will have a ‘targeted’ 0-60mph time of ‘< 1 sec’, and how this was ‘the least interesting part’ about the vehicle.

He added: “Tonight, we radically increased the design goals for the new Tesla Roadster. There will never be another car like this, if you could even call it a car.”

Musk revealed that the Roadster was being built as a joint venture between Tesla and SpaceX. He teased: “Production design complete and unveil end of year, aiming to ship next year. I think it has a shot at being the most mind-blowing product demo of all time.”

And - tantalisingly - there are even suggestions that the Roadster might even be able to FLY!

When X user ‘Tesla Owners Silicon Valley’ asked Musk, ‘Can it fly a little?’, the tech entrepreneur simply responded with a wide-eyed emoji, leaving fans stunned.

So, will you need to get your pilot’s licence passed before the Roadster breaks cover at the back end of 2024? Watch this space for further updates.
