- Tesla Model Y seven-seater launched
- Third row available as £2,500 option
- Only up for grabs with Long Range AWD Model Y
- Cheaper alternative to Kia EV9
The Tesla Model Y just got even more tempting after a new seven-seat version of the electric SUV was launched.
The Model Y has always been ripe for the option of a third row of seats as there’s an enormous amount of room in the rear - with a colossal 854 litres of luggage space up to the roof.
Indeed, customers in America could already equip their Tesla Model Y with seven seats. Now you can officially lease one in the UK.
The third row is a £2,500 option on the Long Range All-Wheel Drive variant of the Model Y. It’s not available with either the Long Range RWD or Performance SUVs.
It takes the overall price to purchase outright up to £54,490 and cars are available to order now. Select Car Leasing customers will be able to choose the seven-seat Tesla Model Y by clicking on a Long Range AWD deal and hitting the ‘Select colour, trim and options’ box.
Tesla says: “Model Y provides maximum versatility – able to carry 7 passengers and their cargo. Each rear seat folds flat independently, creating flexible storage for skis, furniture, luggage and more. The liftgate opens to a low boot floor that makes loading and unloading easy and quick.”
The Model Y’s update means it’s the only Tesla you can have with a third row of seats, following the withdrawal of the right-hand-drive, seven-seat Model X from the UK market.
It’s also the second headline-grabbing bit of news from Tesla in a matter of days. The Californian firm also recently unveiled a new Long Range RWD Tesla Model 3, which delivers a range of up to 436 miles between charges - a significant increase on other Model 3s.
