Skoda has revealed full details of its incoming new Kodiaq, with the seven-seat SUV now offering even more space than before.
The all-new Kodiaq builds on the ‘considerable strengths of the original’, says Skoda.
That means more room in the cabin and boot, extra creature comforts, and the addition of a plug-in hybrid powertrain for the first time.
When order books open in the coming days, the second-gen Kodiaq will begin at £36,645 to purchase outright. We’ll bring you leasing prices as and when we get them.
And here’s the lowdown of what you can expect from the three different trim levels - SE, SE L, and SportLine.
The SE Kodiaq is available with either five or seven seats and comes loaded with equipment as standard. Lease customers can expect 18-inch alloys, LED lights at the front and rear, heated front seats, a 13-inch infotainment touchscreen with sat nav, and a 10.25-inch virtual cockpit.
You also get a whole host of driver assistance and safety systems including Front Assist that’ll hit the brakes when it detects vehicles, pedestrians or cyclists, and blind spot detection with door exit warning.
All SE L models come with seven seats as standard, and are priced from £40,205.
This grade adds larger 19-inch alloys, adaptive LED Matrix headlights with cornering function, an ‘ecoSuite black’ interior design that’s clad in perforated black artificial leather and real leather, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat with memory function, an electrically operated boot, and keyless entry and start/stop system.
The SportLine variant, meanwhile, will join the line-up later in the year - and we don’t yet know much about it.
Overall, the Kodiaq has been ‘redesigned from the ground up’, according to Skoda. There’s a new front end with wider air intake below the grille, framed by two air curtains, and it adopts a more sophisticated air all round. The Kodiaq is also sleeker and more streamlined than before, with improved aerodynamics.
The uprated interior, which now features wireless phone charging, has grown compared with the outgoing model. That goes for both occupant comfort and the size of the boot. The five-seater gets a 910-litre boot (down to 745 litres if you choose the plug-in hybrid engine), while the seven-seater boasts 340 litres with all seats in place.
Speaking of that PHEV Kodiaq, it’s not going to be available just yet and will get a proper release later this year, when it’ll wear an ‘iV’ badge on the tailgate and will be capable of travelling up to 62 miles using electricity alone.
So, for now, you’re left with a choice of two petrol engines and two diesel units.
With the petrols, the entry-level, mild-hybrid 1.5 TSI ‘e-TEC’ enjoys power of 150 PS, while there’s also a more gutsy 2.0-litre unit with 204 PS, the latter of which comes with all-wheel drive as standard.
On the diesel front, a 2.0-litre TDI develops 150 PS as standard, but you’ll also be able to lease a more powerful version of the same engine, at 193 PS. Again, that more powerful diesel is mated to all-wheel drive as standard.
A Skoda spokesperson tells us: “The second-generation model builds on the considerable strengths of the original and adds a host of new features. The new Kodiaq will offer more space than ever before thanks to an even bigger 910 litre boot, a bold new interior concept that introduces Škoda’s innovative Smart Dials, plus a host of other new technologies and creature comforts. These include LED Matrix headlights and new Turn and Remote Park Assist.”
