Fancy a fully-electric alternative to the petrol-powered Skoda Kamiq? Take a look at this funky new Skoda Epiq.
The compact SUV-hatchback crossover is a concept for now, but the Czech firm reckons it ‘foreshadows’ a model that’ll eventually get a full release.
At 4.1 metres in length, the battery-powered Epiq is a tad shorter than the Kamiq, but with a 490-litre boot it could prove to be just as practical as much larger SUVs.
And the other big news is that the Epiq is expected to be priced from around 25,000 euros - £21,300 quid - when it goes on sale, which should make it one of the most affordable EVs out there.
Klaus Zellmer, CEO of Skoda Auto, tellsus: “The coming Skoda Epiq will package a lot of car for an attractive price and a big interior with a compact size. Our customers want choices, which is why we are expanding our growing e-mobility portfolio into this popular segment. I hope these first design teasers demonstrate that the Epiq will shine because of its modern design, everyday range and user-friendly technologies – all of it affordable.”
You can expect a range of around 248 miles between charges.
And Skoda says it is also showcasing a new ‘design language’ with the Epiq.
The exterior is ‘powerful, functional, authentic’, says Skoda, while the distinctive vertical slots at the front and rear are certainly eye-catching, even if they do have us thinking about the Jeep Avenger, which will be a rival car.
The cabin is interesting, too, coming with a ‘minimalist’ interior that’s built using durable, practical and sustainable materials. There’s wireless phone charging, a large central touchscreen, and a stylish two-spoke steering wheel.
All in all, Skoda says the Epiq ia a ‘milestone’ in the firm’s history, and a car that aims to ‘fulfil the needs of both family and lifestyle-oriented customers’.
