Skoda has handed the coveted ‘vRS’ performance badge to a new model - the all-electric Enyaq iV.
Hang on a minute, we hear you ask, hasn’t Skoda already unveiled this car..?
Well, sort of, is the answer.
Back in January Skoda launched a vRS variant of the Enyaq Coupe iV. This latest announcement is for the sport-ification of the regular Enyaq iV SUV, which sits apart in the range from its Coupe sibling.
As you can guess, this particular ‘Victory Rally Sport’ model shares a lot in common with the Coupe vRS. In fact, they’ve got identical performance figures.
Twin electric motors and all-wheel drive generate power of 299 PS, 460 Nm of torque and a 6.5 second 0-62 mph time.
The Enyaq iV vRS has a range of up to 310 miles between charges and the 82 kWh battery can be recharged at speeds up to 135 kW. That means you can take the battery from 10-80% in just 36 minutes at a fast-charging station. To get the most out of every charge, consult our guide on picking your ideal electric car charger.
The Enyaq iV vRS has a more ‘dynamic’ appearance than the regular Enyaq iV - including a unique front grille, front apron, side skirts and 20 inch wheels - and also features sports suspension and progressive steering as standard.
Adaptive Chassis Control (DCC) is available as an option, and which ‘constantly monitors the situation on the road and automatically adjusts the damping’, according to Skoda.
In the cabin you’ll find carbon-look decorative trim on the dashboard and door panels as well as aluminium design pedal covers and heated sports seats with integrated headrests.
Ambient lighting is standard, as is a heated multifunction sports leather steering wheel and huge 13 inch infotainment screen.
Meanwhile Skoda has chucked every driver assistance and safety system it has at the Enyaq iV vRS. You can enjoy ‘Travel Assist’, which keeps you centred in your lane and a safe distance from the car in front, as well as a pedestrian and cyclist-spotting alert and accident prevention system and Collision Avoidance Assist.
So, should you go for the Enyaq iV vRS or the Enyaq Coupe iV vRS?
It probably boils down to a matter of personal preference, with the Coupe boasting a sleeker profile that slopes at the rear.
The regular Enyaq iV vRS does, however, trump the Coupe in terms of practicality, boasting a 585 litre boot that’s 15 litres larger than its stablemate.
When it comes to performance alternatives, you'll be looking at the Ford Mustang Mach-E and the awesome, 585 PS Kia EV6 GT.
Ahead of order books opening on the Enyaq iV vRS, you can lease the Enyaq Coupe iV vRS for around £660 with Select.
