- New electric Skoda Elroq teased for first time
- Similar in size to the Skoda Karoq and smaller than the Skoda Enyaq
- Gets power of up to 300 PS
- Should be available to lease by the end of the year
Czech out the new Elroq from Skoda - an outdoorsy electric SUV with very decent power of up to 300 PS.
This is our first proper look at the Elroq, although the incoming family car is still wrapped in a disguised exterior.
Size-wise, the Elroq is slightly smaller than the electric Skoda Enyaq iV but bigger than the soon-to-be-released Epiq city car.
Skoda says the Elroq is the ‘electric alternative’ to its traditionally-fuelled Karoq, the latter of which is the manufacturer’s mid-sized SUV that’s sandwiched between the smaller Kamiq and larger Kodiaq.
Skoda reckons its new model is the ‘perfect companion for outdoor adventures’ yet also ‘ideal for urban living’. Best of both worlds, then.
When it comes to the styling, the Elroq adopts Skoda’s sleek new design language and comes with a so-called ‘Tech-Deck’ face and bonnet lettering rather than the traditional Skoda grille. There’s also a gently sloping roofline that gives it the look of a crossover.
The cabin features a 5-inch Digital Cockpit carried over from the Enyaq, a 13-inch infotainment screen, and recycled materials are used throughout. So far, so Skoda.
But what’s perhaps surprising is the power that’s being handed to the Elroq.
The tastiest ‘85x’ powertrain gets an 82 kWh battery, 300 PS, two electric motors and all-wheel drive. That puts it almost on a par with the award-winning Hyundai Ioniq 5.
At the other end of the spectrum, the entry-level, rear-wheel drive ‘50’ powertrain features a smaller 55 kWh battery and power of 170 PS.
Rapid charging at 175 kW can take the Elroq’s battery from 10%-80% full in 28 minutes.
A 470-litre boot is slightly down on the Skoda Karoq’s luggage space but should still prove practical enough while there’s 48 litres of storage in the cabin.
Full details will follow later this year. But the Skoda Elroq will count cars like the Volvo EX30, Kia EV3 and Renault Scenic E-Tech as key rivals.
