Select Manchester complete 600 mile charity mission

A dedicated team has completed a gruelling 600 mile run, walk, cycle and swim challenge to raise hundreds of pounds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Mark Ferris is Principal of Select Car Leasing Manchester, headquartered in the M60 Office Park, Swinton.

And after Mark tragically lost his mum - 76-year-old Diana Ackerman - to cancer in November last year, he wanted to help raise money to fight the devastating disease.

Mark and several colleagues set about trying to cover a distance of more than 410 miles in a single month by any physical means necessary, logging their activities on Strava.

That particular distance was chosen because it’s the equivalent of a return trip from Select Car Leasing Manchester to the Select head offices in Reading, Berks.

In the end, Mark and his group of fitness enthusiasts smashed that 410 mile barrier - eventually logging 597 miles between them.

Mark himself covered over 50 miles.

And the effort has been rewarded - with £714 raised going to Macmillan Cancer Support, a major charity that offers much-needed assistance when it comes to the social, emotional and practical impacts that cancer can have on families.

Mark says:

“When I lost my mum to cancer last year, it hit us all hard. And I knew that I wanted to do something to make a meaningful contribution to fight this dreadful disease.
I’m not going to lie, the challenge was gruelling for all of us. But the whole team pulled together and I’m thrilled that we not only hit the distance we initially set, we went above and beyond that barrier.
I’m really proud of what we achieved and I want to thank everyone for their support. Those aching legs and hours in my running shoes have paid off.
Most of us have been affected, or know someone who has been affected, by cancer and we really wanted to do our bit to help.”

Other members of the team who also took on the challenge were Scott Murray, Chris Waugh, Michelle Timmis, Paul Walsh, Connor Esberger, Sarah Schatynski, Brian Schofield, Christopher Reeds, Bogusia Wieclawek and Kanjana Ferris.

The Select Car Leasing Manchester office opened 18 months ago and employs 11 members of staff. You can give them a call on 0161 737 9350 or visit their dedicated webpages.

***Mark’s JustGiving page is still open, if you’d like to make your own donation.

I could not recommend Select enough and the amazing service I had from my consultant Shane Newton. Shane regularly updated me on progress of my new vehicle, and was always so helpful in answering any queries I had regarding my order throughout the whole process - no question was silly - he always responded promptly whether that be through email or phone call. I just received my new vehicle last week, and Shane was in contact right away to ensure the handover was seamless and that I was happy with my new vehicle! Needless to say I was very happy with the earlier than anticipated delivery - Christmas has came early! This is my second vehicle with Select and yet another excellent service. I could not fault anything and want to thank Shane once again for all of his help!
