- Second generation Skoda Enyaq revealed
- Up for grabs as Enyaq SUV or Enyaq Coupe
- More power, better range, improved tech
- Available to lease NOW
One of the UK’s best electric SUVs just got even better, after Skoda launched the second-generation of its award-winning Enyaq.
The Enyaq first appeared on the UK leasing market back in 2021 and was promptly named Car of the Year by advice website Parkers.
Now the next-gen Enyaq has been launched with a range of up to 365 miles between charges while entry-level models now get power of 210 PS - up from the old base of 170 PS.
The Enyaq will, as ever, be available as both a traditional Enyaq SUV and sleek Enyaq Coupe.
And while we’re talking here about the regular models, Skoda is also set to refresh the range-topping, performance Enyaq vRS later this year.
So, what has changed since the last Enyaq update?
The big news is that Enyaq’s exterior has gained the firm’s patented ‘Tech-Deck Face’, with the front end now tauter and more futuristic-looking than before. New headlights also lend the Enyaq a ‘four-eye look’, says Skoda.
The face itself hides the sensors and radar system which means that all Enyaq models boast tech such as Blind Spot Detection, Predictive Adaptive Cruise Control, Collision Avoidance Assist, and Traffic Jam Assist as standard.
There are large, aerodynamically-optimised alloy wheels available in sizes ranging from 19 to 21 inches. Those wheels, along with optimised air curtains and a reduced gap between the radiator and front bumper, has reduced the drag coefficient to 0.229 (for the Coupe) from 0.240.
That brings us neatly to the powertrains.
The outgoing Enyaq can be leased with an entry-level ‘50’ (55 kWh) battery that gives the SUV power of 170 PS, 310 Nm of torque, and a range of around 234 miles.
That ‘50’ battery, however, will now be jettisoned in favour of a larger ‘60’ (63 kWh) unit which unlocks power of 204 PS and a range of up to 268 miles between charges.
There’s another, larger battery - the ‘85’ (82 kWh) - which gets 286 PS (same as before) and 545 Nm of torque, while the range between charges has been upped to 359 miles for the Enyaq SUV and 365 miles for the Enyaq Coupe.
The Enyaq 85 is also available with ‘X’ all-wheel drive, which adds an electric motor to the front axle (the other Enyaqs are all rear-wheel drive) and multi-terrain prowess, but sees the max range drop by around 25 miles per charge.
Both the rear-wheel drive and the all-wheel drive Enyaq 85 will accelerate from 0-62 mph in 6.7 seconds.
The Enyaq will recharge at speeds of up to 165 kW DC, which can take the energy in the battery from 10 to 80 per cent in just 28 minutes.
There are three trim levels to go at - SE L, Edition and SportLine.
Base SE L models can only be enjoyed as an Enyaq SUV and not the Coupe. You get 19-inch alloys, LED headlights, keyless entry, a 13-inch infotainment system with sat nav, an electric boot with virtual pedal, heated front seats and a heated steering wheel.
The Edition trim - available as both SUV and Coupe - unlocks a choice of both the 60 and 85 batteries and also gets full LED Matrix headlights and dark chrome exterior styling flourishes.
SportLine variants, meanwhile, enjoy high gloss black detailing on the front spoiler, side window trim and roof rails, as well as 20-inch alloys, all-wheel drive, an illuminated front face, head-up display, surround-view camera, progressive dynamic steering and sports suspension.
There are also various optional packs that add goodies like a panoramic sunroof, tow bar, and a heat pump.
And because this is a Skoda, you also get the manufacturer’s famous ‘Simply Clever’ features fitted as standard, including an umbrella in the door pocket and ice scraper in the boot door panel.
Klaus Zellmer, CEO of Skoda Auto, says: “Our new Modern Solid design language, more comprehensive standard equipment, and new digital features combine to make the Enyaq models even better everyday companions.”
Rivals to the Skoda Enyaq include the Tesla Model Y, Kia EV6, Peugeot E-3008 and Renault Scenic E-Tech.
