Please give a warm welcome to the new Renault Scenic E-Tech, as the fully electric SUV is now available to lease!
When the original Renault Scenic was first launched back in the mid-1990s, it was a fully-fledged MPV that went on to pretty much define the class.
The Scenic as we knew it was put out to pasture in 2019… only to make way for THIS, an all-new incarnation that adopts a stylish SUV-shape and which comes absolutely loaded with equipment as standard.
Renault says the Scenic E-Tech provides stiff competition to other electric cars like the Tesla Model Y, Volkswagen ID.4, and Peugeot E-3008, as well as Chinese newcomers like the BYD Atto 3.
The Renault Scenic E-Tech is now available to lease with Select Car Leasing from just £407 per month*.
So, what do you need to know about this sumptuous new addition from Renault?
Firstly, all UK models come with a large 87 kWh battery that provides power of 220 hp and 300 Nm - enough shove to get you from 0-62mph in 8.4 seconds.
We were lucky enough to drive the Scenic E-Tech (check out the Reviews section of our website in the coming days) earlier this month and can confirm that the E-Tech has more than enough get-up-and-go for all types of road and traffic scenarios.
You also get a very decent range indeed - up to 379 miles - which is well ahead of the maximum 331 miles afforded to the Tesla Model Y Long Range model.
You get 22kW AC and 150kW DC charging capacities which, as Renault points out, ‘eclipses those of many rivals’.
Crucially, the Scenic E-Tech also comes with a heat pump as standard on all trim levels, which can make a big difference when it comes to really getting the most out of your car’s electric range in cold weather conditions.
From all angles, it’s a good looking car, and one that’s exceptionally roomy, too, being top of the class in the segment when it comes to knee and headroom in the back. A 545-litre boot is also larger than you get with both the Peugeot E-3008 or the VW ID.4.
There are three trim levels up for grabs - Techno, Esprit Alpine, and the range-topping Iconic.
And to describe the Techno models as ‘entry level’ almost does them a disservice, because they come positively rammed with kit as standard.
With those Techno variants, you can expect driver assistance and safety systems including intelligent adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, lane centring, active emergency braking system with pedestrian and cyclist detection, and blind spot warning.
The well-appointed cabin benefits from Renault’s 12.2-inch ‘OpenR’ infotainment screen, which comes with Google services built-in, wireless phone charging, automatic air con, a rear-view camera, parking sensors at the back and front, heated front seats, heated steering wheel, and electric boot opening.
Meanwhile the exterior gets 19-inch alloys, full LED lights at the front and rear, and electric flush door handles.
Move up a grade to Esprit Alpine, and you get larger 20-inch alloys, heated sports seats, and some eye-catching blue and satin grey styling both inside and out - including with the fabric dashboard.
The range-topping Iconic trim, meanwhile, boasts 20-inch ‘Oracle’ diamond-cut alloys, an electric driver’s seat with massage function, a upmarket Harman Kardon sound system, a soft fabric dashboard with real wood inserts, light fabric seats made from recycled materials, hands-free parking and a 360-degree camera.
The Iconic trim of the Renault Scenic E-Tech is also the one you want if you crave Renault’s ‘Solarbay’ opacifying panoramic sunroof, which can be lightened and darkened to varying degrees depending on your mood.
It’s down to sophisticated tech involving PDLCs (polymer dispersed liquid crystals), with a Renault spokesperson telling us: “Renault is the first mass-market car manufacturer to offer a panoramic roof that can be either fully or partially opacified in segments. The driver and passengers can choose any of four roof settings: full light, full opaque, light at the front but opaque at the back, and the reverse. More practical than a conventional roller blind, it allows passengers in the back to lighten or opacify the roof in their area without affecting the occupants in the front. Its operation can be controlled using a button by the overhead light or by voice control using Google Assistant for an effect that positively wows passengers.”
