Here’s your first look at the new-and-improved Renault Captur, which is poised to join the leasing market later this year.
The Captur is, of course, Renault’s funky urban crossover, a rival to the likes of the Ford Puma, Peugeot 2008 and Nissan Juke that was first launched in the UK back in 2013.
And this makeover is a major one, with the Captur borrowing the design language of pricier Renaults higher up the food chain - like the electric Scenic E-Tech and Megane E-Tech - to adopt a ‘more premium look’, according to the French manufacturer.
There’s a significant interior overhaul, too, with the plush cabin now boasting an eye-catching 10.4-inch vertical infotainment touchscreen.
One other thing to note is that the plug-in hybrid version of the Captur appears to have been dropped from the line-up, with Renault revealing the updated crossover will be available with either a traditional 1.0-litre petrol engine or with a 145 bhp ‘E-Tech’ self-charging hybrid powertrain.
When it comes to the exterior, the Captur’s boxier new front end takes on a more ‘elegant, technological look’, says Renault, while the rear gains a transparent light housing for a more ‘contemporary’ feel.
You can expect three trim levels when the Captur becomes available to order in Q3 of 2024 - Evolution, Techno, and Esprit Alpine.
The entry-level Evolution models feature 17-inch alloys and a matt black finish on the lower body and beltline with long, black front and rear skid plates.
The Techno grade adds larger 18-inch rims and a ‘High Gloss Black’ finish on the lower body and beltline.
And the new Esprit Alpine level boasts 19-inch wheels, gloss black window surrounds, an aerodynamic splitter, and front and rear skid plates. A two-tone colour scheme is an option on Techno and standard on Esprit Alpine versions of the Captur.
The Techno and Esprit Alpine versions of the Captur also get a new fully-connected ‘OpenR Link’ multimedia system with Google services built-in. The package is underpinned by Android Automotive 12 software - which Renault says is ‘a world first for a B-segment vehicle’.
Wireless phone charging is also standard across the range and there are new dashboard screens measuring up to 10.25 inches.
In terms of practicality, the Captur’s sliding rear bench of seats has been retained while you still get a very decent 536 litres of boot space.
There’s also good news for vegans, with leather jettisoned in favour of ‘grained cover material’, which is all part of Renault’s aim to completely phase out animal-derived materials by 2025.
When it comes to powertrains, the Captur’s 1.0-litre petrol engine has power of 90 bhp and will return up to 48 miles to the gallon.
The E-Tech full hybrid engine, meanwhile, returns up to 60 miles to the gallon while CO2 emissions stand at just 105 g/km. Renault says the hybrid system ‘delivers the silence of an electric vehicle, without the charging constraints’.
There’s also a full suite of driver assistance and safety tech, which includes intelligent speed assistance with adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and front, rear and side parking sensors.
A Renault spokesperson tells us: “Renault Captur is the B-segment ‘car for living’. It is versatile and multi-talented, both compact on the outside (4.23m) and spacious on the inside, modular to adapt to the uses of modern families, equally at home in the city or off the grid. Its high driving position is appreciated by its owners, allowing easy access to the vehicle and good visibility of the road. All these qualities explain the success of a car that has sold over two million units in 90 countries around the world since its launch ten years ago.”
We’ll bring you further details - and leasing prices - when they arrive. And you can lease the current Renault Captur with Select Car Leasing from £227 per month*.
