Bring on the bling - because there’s a gold-flecked, range-topping new version of the Renault Arkana.
In case you’re not already familiar, the Arkana is a distinctive SUV from Renault that was first launched in May last year.
The manufacturer’s flagship vehicle slots into the Renault range above the smaller Kadjar and the smaller-still Captur.
Why is it so different? Well, it’s the first proper mass-market SUV that takes on a swooping, svelte coupe-like form, similar to the more upmarket BMW X6 or the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe.
And because it has always had hybrid tech - both mild-hybrid and self-charging powertrains - it has proved popular with families looking to cut down on their fuel bills.
What’s new for 2022? The most eye-catching part of the update is that the range-topping ‘E-Tech engineered’ variants - which are self-charging hybrids - now come with ‘electric gold’ flourishes on the exterior.
You can also expect 18-inch diamond cut alloy wheels with gold highlights and unique skid plates.
Meanwhile the interior is also particularly plush, coming with heather leather steering wheel, heated front seats in leather and suede upholstery, a carbon-style dash, aluminium pedals, a frameless rear-view mirror and clever tech, such as adaptive cruise control and hands-free parking.
At the other end of the trim level spectrum, there’s also a new base model.
The old ‘Iconic’ trim has been jettisoned for a new ‘Evolution’ line, and Renault says you now get more kit as standard with the entry-level versions.
Evolution Arkanas have 17 inch alloys, full LED headlights, dark grey skid plates and tinted rear windows. Standard equipment also includes a 7 inch infotainment touchscreen, automatic air con, electric parking brake, rear parking sensors, and a rear view camera.
Not bad at all, considering these models start from just £26,695 to purchase outright. You can also lease an Arkana through Select from just £305 per month.
Up a rung from Evolution is the ‘Techno’ model, which has a larger 9.3 inch touchscreen, chrome flourishes, extra-tinted rear windows, three driving modes, ambient lighting, and added gizmos such as overspeed prevention, blind spot warning, and rear cross traffic alert.
There’s also a mid-range ‘R.S. Line’ trim, that arrives complete with unique front bumpers, a honeycomb grille, gun metal skid plates, chromed exhaust pipes, and a swanky interior that’s pretty much on a par with the E-Tech variants.
A spokesperson for the French firm adds:
“Renault is introducing a series of revisions to the Arkana range for the 2022 Model Year, with an enhanced line-up that emphasises the stylish hybrid SUV’s striking design and innovative use of technology, plus a new E-Tech engineered trim level that is also now available on both Clio and Captur hybrid models.”
