- Orders books for Renault 5 E-Tech open in January
- Fully-electric hatchback priced from £22,995
- Makes it one of the cheapest EVs in UK
- Range of up to 248 miles between charges
The Renault 5 E-Tech is almost here - and here’s EVERYTHING you need to know about leasing one.
The fully-electric hatchback is a reinvention of a much-loved motor that was a common sight on UK roads back in the 70s and 80s.
Now Renault has confirmed that its fun-loving, modernised 5 will be available to order from January 2025.
With prices beginning at just £22,995 to buy outright, the Renault 5 E-Tech will be one of the cheapest EVs on sale, being a shade more expensive than the Citroen e-C3 but more affordable than either the Fiat 500 Electric or MG4 EV. It also undercuts the fully-electric, £30,000 MINI Cooper by some distance.
That wallet-friendly appeal will be reflected in your leasing costs.

Renault 5 E-Tech Design
Renault reckons the 5 E-Tech is here to ‘bring some sparkle to the world of small electric vehicles’. It’s a car designed to put a smile on faces, then, whether you learned to drive in the original 5 back in the day or you’re coming to the Renault party for the first time.
From where we’re standing, Renault has done a cracking job.
The 5’s lines of old are all present and correct while Renault has put a fun twist on some of the classics, turning the original car’s bonnet vent into a digital display that tells you how much power is left in the battery.
Mid-range models get funky denim upholstery made from recycled materials while range-topping variants boast eye-catching yellow seats.
A two-tier padded dashboard is Renault’s idea of ‘retro’ but you still get a thoroughly modern 10.1-inch central touchscreen.
There’s a choice of sparkle-effect body colours, including ‘Pop Yellow!’ and ‘Pop Green!’, and all models in the range wear 18-inch diamond cut alloy wheels as standard.
It’s hard to accuse the Renault 5 E-Tech of being boring.
Renault 5 E-Tech Powertrains
You’ve got a choice of two different batteries.
One is a 40 kWh unit, called the ‘urban range’. The other is a larger 52 kWh affair that’s called the ‘comfort range’.
The urban range model gets power of 120 hp, 225 Nm of torque, and a range of up to 190 miles between charges. The entry-level battery will also see you accelerating from 0-62 mph in around 9.0 seconds.
The more potent comfort range Renault 5 E-Tech gets increased power, at 150 hp, more torque at 245 Nm, and an extended range of up to 248 miles.
The comfort range car can also sprint from 0-62 mph in 7.9 seconds, which isn’t exceptionally rapid but is quicker than the base Peugeot E-208.
Importantly, a heat-pump comes as standard. Why is that a good thing? Well, it’s a more efficient way to warm your cabin than a traditional heater and it helps to preserve your battery’s range. It also works to regulate the temperature of your EV’s battery.
Renault 5 E-Tech Charging
The Renault 5 E-Tech supports rapid charging at speeds of up to 80 kW DC. That means you can replenish the energy in the battery from 15-80% in around 30 minutes when you’re on the go.
Using a typical 7.4 kW home wallbox will see a 15-80% charge going by in around 5 hours 11 minutes.
Renault 5 E-Tech Trim levels
There are three grades to choose from with a Renault 5 E-Tech lease - entry-level ‘Evolution’, mid-range ‘Techno’ and range-topping ‘Iconic Five’.
The base Evolution models enjoy 18-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, a 10.1-inch ‘Open R Link’ display and a 7-inch digital driver information display. You also get wireless smartphone mirroring, rear parking sensors, and safety tech like cruise control, driver attention alert and traffic sign recognition with speed alert.
The Techno variants add a larger 10-inch digital driver display as well as a 10.1-inch touchscreen with Google services built in. You’ll also enjoy adaptive cruise control, wireless phone charging, ambient lighting, a rear-view camera and two-tone paint options.
The larger ‘comfort range’ battery also comes into the play at the Techno level.
Iconic Five models, meanwhile, boast unique alloys, a heated steering wheel, heated front seats, an ‘active driver assist’ system that combines adaptive cruise control with lane centring, and hands-free parking.
Renault 5 E-Tech Practicality
The 5 E-Tech might be a compact car that’s perfect for urban life, but Renault says there’s enough room in the back for three occupants.
A 326-litre boot is ample, and trumps rivals like the MINI Cooper Electric and Peugeot E-208 while falling short of the 363 litres offered in the MG4 EV.
The Renault 5 E-Tech also features bi-directional functionality including vehicle-to-load (V2L) capabilities, which allows you to use the car's battery to power external devices.
** Deliveries are expected to begin March 2025 and we’ll bring you lease prices as soon as we can.
