- Electric Renault 5 E-Tech wins 'Best Car of the Year' award
- Follows public vote and expert judging panel
- Also triumphs in 'Best Electric Car' category
- Renault 5 E-Tech 100% available to lease early 2025
Behold the ‘Best Car of the Year’ - the incoming Renault 5 E-Tech.
While the fully-electric Renault 5 E-Tech hasn’t actually made it to UK roads yet - that’ll happen early in 2025 - it’s already picking up trophies.
As well as beating every other new car to the top ‘Best’ title, the supermini was also awarded ‘Best Electric Car 2024/2025’ by the independent, not-for-profit organisation Best Cars of the Year in its annual New Car World Championships.
The judging panel comprises car designers, engineers, executives and automotive media professionals from across the world.
Public votes - gleaned at the recent British Motor Show - were also factored-in to the equation.
And it was the Renault 5 E-Tech 100% electric that came out on top.
Award-winning journalist, Ray Massey said: “Renault really is on a revitalised roll and the new Renault 5 – about to hit the road and UK showrooms – is leading that latter-day French revolution. It has put rocket-boosters under a 21st century retro revival of a much-loved classic. It’s a fun and clever car that’s within achievable real-world reach of many motorists. It always draws a crowd and creates a buzz wherever it goes on show. Put simply, it makes people smile. And we need much more of that today."
When the Renault does become available to lease next year it’ll boast a range of up to 248 miles on a single charge and power of up to 150 hp.
