This is the latest model from Chinese brand ORA - a car so fresh it doesn’t even have a name yet!
ORA is the new kid on the block for Britain's electric vehicle (EV) market.
Last year the manufacturer launched the all-electric Funky Cat, a quirky hatchback that goes up against the Volkswagen ID.3 and the MINI Electric, and which also scored a ‘Best in Class’ award for safety from industry assessors Euro NCAP.
Now ORA has unveiled another EV - a premium saloon.
The only catch is that ORA hasn’t decided upon a name for it yet - though it’s called the Lightning Cat in China.
So, perhaps ORA can run a public naming competition in the UK... where it’ll end up being called ‘Carr McCarFace’, or something similar!
We don’t yet know the precise specification for the new ORA, but GWM says it’ll compete with brands like Tesla, Kia and Hyundai.
The Hyundai comparison is particularly on-the-money, because the new ORA has a swooping, streamlined exterior that reminds us of the award-winning Hyundai Ioniq 6.
In China, the Lightning Cat makes use of a 82 kWh battery that unlocks power of up to 408 PS, 680 Nm of torque, and which boasts a 0-62 mph time of just 4.4 seconds. Lightning quick, indeed.
It also has a range of around 300 miles, which puts it roughly on a par with the entry-level Tesla Model 3.
Meanwhile the UK's second ORA will also feature a large panoramic glass roof, synthetic leather seats, and an interior ambient lighting system, all as standard.
Mr Yao, Vice President GWM ORA Europe, revealed: “I am delighted we are making such good progress in the UK market with the ORA Funky Cat and the GWM ORA brand. The reveal of our next premium EV showcases that we are serious about our role in the UK market, offering customers fantastic quality products with high levels of specification.”
Besides this new reveal, ORA is also promising more more variants of the Funky Cat (below). That’ll give lease customers the option of heated and cooled seats, massage seats, and the choice of a bigger battery.
