Porsche confirms electric Cayenne

  • New fully-electric Cayenne teased.
  • Seen here in disguised form ahead of production.
  • Expected to make debut in 2024.
  • Traditional petrol and hybrid engines will still be available.

A new fully-electric Porsche Cayenne is making its way to UK roads - and here’s a first glimpse of the mean, green SUV in disguised form.

The Cayenne - also available as the sleeker Cayenne Coupe - is currently in its third generation and enjoyed a hefty facelift last year.

But there’s now a fourth generation in the works, expected to launch by 2026.

And when it drops, it’ll be a fully-electric model, Porsche has revealed this week.

Interestingly, the existing third-gen Cayenne with traditional petrol and hybrid powertrains will continue to run alongside the fourth-gen battery-powered model, ‘up to and beyond 2030’, says Porsche.

Oliver Blume, CEO of Porsche AG, explained: “The Cayenne has always defined the sports car in its segment. In the middle of the decade, the fourth generation will set standards in the segment as an electric SUV. At the same time, into the next decade our customers will still be able to choose from a wide range of powerful and efficient combustion and hybrid models.”

The incoming electric Cayenne will share the same 800-volt Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture as the new Porsche Macan EV and a dual-motor, all-wheel drive system should be a given.

You can also expect a hike in power for the Cayenne that exceeds the Macan Electric’s 639 PS max.

The Cayenne electric faces ‘millions of test kilometres’, according to Porsche, as it fine-tunes its future flagship SUV.

Michael Schätzle, Vice President Product Line Cayenne, reveals: “The real-world testing has begun, and this is one of the most important milestones of the development process. In this way, we ensure the durability and reliability of the hardware, the software and all the car’s functions in accordance with our high quality standards.”

When it comes to the Cayenne you can lease right now, entry-level variants feature a 3.0-litre petrol engine with power of 353 PS.

There’s also an efficient - and extremely potent - plug-in hybrid, with the range-topping Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid models enjoying 739 PS and a range of around 45 miles using electricity alone.
