Polestar has announced details of an all-electric, drop-top performance roadster that’s set to launch in 2026.
And with power of 884 hp and a blistering 0-62mph time, it’ll be a real rival to the incoming Tesla Roadster, which is slated to hit UK roads next year.
The ‘Polestar 6’ roadster was teased as a concept in March this year and was known then as the ‘O2’.
Polestar saw just how excited people were for the convertible hard-top and has now decided it’d be mad not to give it the full production treatment.
Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO, says:
“With the overwhelming consumer and press response, we took the decision to put this stunning roadster into production and I am so excited to make it a reality. Polestar 6 is a perfect combination of powerful electric performance and the thrill of fresh air with the top down.”
The Polestar 6 will enjoy the same bonded aluminium platform and 800-Volt electric architecture as the upcoming Polestar 5 grand tourer.
The roadster will enjoy power of 884 hp, 900 Nm of torque, and a 0-62mph sprint time of just 3.2 seconds.
That makes the Polestar 6 as quick as the Porsche Taycan Turbo.
But the Polestar isn’t quite as pacey as the Tesla Roadster, which has been hampered by delays since being revealed a few years back, but which now looks like being ready for 2023.
Tesla calls its Roadster the ‘quickest car in the world’, with a claimed top speed of 250 mph and a 0-60mph acceleration time of just 1.9 seconds.
If all of that doesn’t sound exciting enough, Tesla also claims the Roadster will be able to travel up to 620 miles between charges, eclipsing the current electric range champion - the 453 mile Mercedes-Benz EQS.
There’s no word yet on what the Polestar Roadster might cost, or its precise specification, with those details set to be released in due course.
