Polestar has treated its all-electric ‘2’ fastback to some performance modifications.
The only bad news is that the Polestar 2 ‘BST edition 270’ model will be limited to just 270 production units.
In its regular form, the fully-electric Polestar 2 is an eye-catching alternative to the likes of the Tesla Model 3 or Audi Q4 e-Tron, and which comes with power of up to 402 bhp, if you opt for the ‘Long Range Dual Motor’ variant.
Entry-level ‘Standard Range Single Motor’ models get a much more modest 228 bhp, as well as a range of up to 294 miles between charges.
But this BST edition 270 is a different beast entirely.
Two electric motors and a 78 kWh battery combine to create a power output of 476 hp as well as 680 Nm of torque. It’ll be capable of accelerating from 0-62mph in just 4.4 seconds.
And the Polestar 2 BST edition has also been treated to some proper suspension tweaks that make it Polestar’s most dynamic electric driver’s car yet’, according to the Volvo-Geely owned firm.
The 2 BST sits 25mm lower than standard and there are two-way adjustable Ohlins dampers with auxiliary adjustment chambers mounted under the bonnet, as well as a front strut bar.
The springs themselves are 20% stiffer and are accompanied by new matte black 21-inch alloy wheels that are inspired by those of Polestar 1. The standard 4-piston Brembo brakes remain.
Style wise, you can have ‘Thunder’ or ‘Snow’ colour exteriors and there are new bumpers and side skirts. And, of course, a big black body stripe is available as an option, as is a full-body ‘Battleship Gray’ satin wrap.
Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO, says:
“We had a great reaction to the specially modified Polestar 2 we showed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2021 and the response made it clear – we should create a version like that for production.”
Deliveries are ear-marked for the back end of this year, with prices to be revealed at a later date.
Elsewhere, it’s going to be a busy 12 months for Polestar.
There’s a Polestar 3 SUV on the way later this year, with a Polestar 4 compact, performance SUV coupe planned for 2023.
In the meantime, you can lease a Polestar 2 with Select Car Leasing from £440 per month*.
