Peugeot launches electric version of the 408 fastback

  • Peugeot launches the electric E-408
  • Gets 281-mile range and 210 hp
  • Adopts same styling as petrol and plug-in hybrid 408
  • Order books open November 5th

Peugeot has handed a fully-electric powertrain to its 408 - and the new E-408 is capable of travelling up to 281 miles between charges.

The Peugeot 408 is a really interesting car from a styling point of view, as it blends all the best bits of a hatchback, SUV and coupe to create an eye-catching ‘fastback’.

The 408 was already available to lease with both a petrol or plug-in hybrid powertrain.

And now a fully-electric E-408 has joined the party, arriving with a decent range between trips to the plug as well as ample power of 210 hp.

It means there’s now an electric version of ALL of Peugeot’s cars - from the Peugeot 208 to the Peugeot 5008.

Underpinning the E-408 is a 58.2 kWh battery that can be recharged at speeds up to 120 kW, taking the energy from 20% to 80% in just over 30 minutes. You can also recover 62 miles of range in just over 10 minutes.

There are three drive modes - ‘Eco’, ‘Normal’, and ‘Sport’ - which unlock varying degrees of power, from 170 hp to 210 hp. Max torque stands at 345 Nm.

A heat pump also comes as standard, which helps you get the very best out of the battery’s range, no matter what the weather is doing.

The E-408’s exterior gets a body-coloured front grille, slim LED headlights, fang-like light strips running into the bumper, and three-claw LED tail lights.

Inside the cabin you can expect LED ambient lighting, a sporty and compact steering wheel, 10-inch touch screen with sat nav, wireless phone mirroring, a heated steering wheel and heated seats to all come as standard.

The boot space measures 471 litres, which is down slightly on the 536 litres of space you get in the petrol-powered Peugeot 408.

Meanwhile you can lease the E-408 in two different trims - entry-level ‘Allure’ and range-topping ‘GT’.

The Allure variants enjoy 19-inch alloys, a six-speaker audio system, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a rear parking camera with sensors.

The E-408 GT adds Matrix LED headlights, front parking sensors, aluminium interior flourishes, a hands-free electric tailgate, and Level 2 semi-autonomous driving tech including adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go and a lane positioning system.

We’ll bring you leasing prices as soon as we get them, with order books opening next month.

Rivals to the Peugeot E-408 will include the Tesla Model 3, Polestar 2, and the Citroen e-C4 X.
