Order books are now open for the new Peugeot 308 and 308 ‘SW’ station wagon - and here’s everything you need to know about them.
Whisper it quietly, but for our money the 308 is one of the best-looking hatchbacks you can lease right now. The estate is easy on the eye as well.
Don’t just take our word for it - the 308 was a recent European Car of the Year Finalist and also scooped the ‘Best Urban Model 2022’ gong at the Women’s World Car of the Year.
Whether you go for the regular hatchback or the SW estate, you’re getting a vehicle that'll turn head and which is more than a match for the Volkswagen Golf or the Ford Focus.
So, what are you actually getting for your monthly leasing fee?
Standard spec on all models is generous, and includes Peugeot’s Active Safety Brake with pedestrian and cyclist detection system, radar-assisted intelligent speed adaptation, lane keep assist, cruise control with speed limiter and a driver attention warning to keep you alert at the wheel.
Depending on which trim level you choose, you can also enjoy full Matrix LED headlights, adaptive cruise control, and a 360-degree surround view parking camera.
And perhaps the best bit about the 308 and 308 SW is the plug-in hybrid powertrains, which offer real poke but also great fuel economy.
There are two versions - the ‘Hybrid 180’ or the ‘Hybrid 225’, offering power of either 180 hp or 225 hp.
Both get a 1.6 litre petrol engine that works in conjunction with a 12.4 kWh battery. The 225 will travel for 36 miles using electricity alone, the the 180 will go even further with an electric range of 37 miles. There are some serious implications for your tax bill here as a business lease customer, with the 180 falling into the low 8% Benefit in Kind (BIK) bracket for the year 2022-23.
With the 225 you can enjoy a 0-62mph acceleration time of just 7.6 seconds, while both the 180 and 225 are capable of returning in excess of 250 miles the gallon. Talk about having your cake and eating it.
A full charge using a 7.4kWh Wall Box charger will take just shy of four hours, while the optional 7.4kW charger reduces this to around two hours.
Away from the electrified powertrains, the Peugeot 308 and 308 SW are both available with either a 1.2 litre petrol or a 1.5 litre diesel engine. Again, both have decent power of 130 bhp so still make a great option if you’re not quite ready to dip your toe in the plug-in tidal wave just yet.
Julie David, Managing Director of Peugeot UK, said:
“The compact family car class remains one of the most important and competitive segments and is one where Peugeot excels. The New 308 and 308 SW offer buyers the possibility to choose the powertrain that best meets their needs, and represents another step in our commitment to offer an electrified variant across our entire model line-up by 2025.”
