More stuff for the same amount of dosh? Yes please!
That’s what Peugeot is doing with its popular 208 hatchback, as it listens to consumers in the UK being side-swiped by rising household bills.
Both the entry-level ‘Active Premium’ and the second-rung ‘Allure Premium’ trims have been boosted to include a better specification as standard, but with zero change to the RRP.
And that, of course, is also great news for lease customers looking for the absolute most amount of bang for the buck.
The Active Premium variant is now called ‘Active Premium+’. It now comes with dark tinted rear and rear side windows for an ‘even more stylish appearance’.
You also now get, as standard, automatic windscreen wipers and automatic air conditioning.
One step up is the new ‘Allure Premium+’. And compared with the old ‘Allure Premium’ trim level, you now get an aluminium finish on the pedals and front door sills.
The cabin also features a new 7-inch infotainment touchscreen with sat nav - in addition to the swanky 3D head-up digital instrument panel.
Elsewhere, there are no changes to the GT and range-topping GT Premium trim levels.
Overall, the 208 is a rival to the Renault Clio, Ford Fiesta and Volkswagen Polo.
It’s a car that was named ‘European Car of the Year 2020’ - a prestigious award overseen by a panel of motoring experts from across the Continent.
The 208 is available with a choice of petrol, diesel or fully electric powertrains to give you maximum flexibility with your leasing choices.
The electric e-208 uses a 50 kWh battery to create a range of up to 225 miles before you need to stop and plug it in.
If you’re not quite ready to make the leap into electric vehicle ownership, the most frugal engine up for grabs is the 1.5 litre diesel, which will return up to 73 miles to the gallon.
The electric model is the most powerful of the lot, with 136 hp to play with.
Meanwhile the most affordable powertrain to live with is the 1.2 litre petrol unit with power of 75 hp, and which will still return a very healthy 55 mpg.
