A whopping 85% of parents avoid making trips of more than two hours with kids, according to new research by Volkswagen.
The Commercial arm of the German manufacturer surveyed 1,000 UK drivers, via OnePoll, about their family motoring behaviours.
And more than eight out of ten said they ‘wouldn’t even consider a journey over two hours because of their children’s boredom’.
With the festive season in full swing, that stat has never been more pertinent.
You can, however, file the next VW statement in the ‘no sh**, Sherlock’ folder - because the firm says family motoring can be ‘stressful’.
More than one third (37%) of UK parents said that keeping their young ones occupied on a long journey is a challenge, while 52% admitted that road trips can cause blood pressure to rise.
Motorists polled suggested that ‘no-limit screen time’ and ‘more sweets than usual’ was the key to enduring long drives.
And to put family motoring to the test, VW has even roped-in actor James Buckley - aka Jay Cartwright from E4 sitcom The Inbetweeners - who took to the road in a fully-electric VW ID. Buzz accompanied by four youngsters.
James, host of podcast In Sickness and in Health, said: “That was without a doubt the toughest gig I’ve ever faced! I have two kids of my own, so I know how tricky long trips can be, but four kids, with no electronic devices for hours, it was tough to keep them entertained. However, the ID. Buzz did the trick, with the Park Assist Plus being the absolute highlight for everyone. No one could believe it when I took my hands off the wheel and it parked all by itself.”
You can watch the full video of James’ exploits via the VW YouTube channel.
And you’ll also find some dedicated celebrity VW ID. Buzz content on Select’s own dedicated YouTube channel!
We recently handed an ID. Buzz to former footballer Jimmy Bullard, in an attempt to see if he could live with the vehicle to indulge his passion for fishing.
With 1,121 litres of cargo space, a practical and spacious interior for five, and up to 258 miles of range on a single charge, as well as six USB-C charging points and touchscreen infotainment, the ID. Buzz makes for a great lease vehicle.
And you can lease a Volkswagen ID. Buzz with Select Car Leasing from just £488 per month*.
