Here’s a sneak peek at Nissans of the future - after the Japanese firm launched a new ‘Hyper Urban’ concept.
The all-electric crossover has been revealed in the run up to the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo later this month.
And the emphasis here is on both ‘style’ and ‘fun’, according to Nissan.
So, you can expect scissor doors - not something you usually see on a compact city car - as well as razor-sharp design both inside and out.
The interior features front seats that collapse and fold into the back seats, creating a ‘sofa-like, private relaxing space’.
In fact, Nissan says the cabin of the Hyper Urban is so relaxing, you can park it in the garage, or on your drive, and then use the car as a dedicated ‘interior space to unwind’.
While Nissan hasn’t revealed precise details about the powertrain, we do know that the Hyper Urban is powered purely by electricity.
It also has its own ‘EV ecosystem’. You get ‘V2H’ - aka ‘vehicle-to-home’ - capabilities, which lets you funnel energy from the battery to power your property.
And the Hyper Urban also has ‘V2G’ - aka ‘vehicle-to-grid’ - skills, which lets you put energy back into the national grid, helping you to save money in the long run.
A Nissan spokesperson adds: “The Intelligent Charging Management System features AI that can autonomously charge vehicles and power buildings, providing efficient management of power.”
Will the Hyper Urban ever see the light of day as a production model? Well, it might just, as Nissan has a habit of turning concepts into reality.
Don’t believe us? Just look at the Nissan Ariya, a car that was first teased as a concept model at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show.
As Nissan says on its official website: “Sometimes, the point of a concept car is just to explore a concept. It can showcase blue-sky thinking about a future world with technology that's more science fiction than reality. Concepts can also give us a glimpse of design studies freed from real-world limitations, sparking a sense of wonder. But Nissan has also developed a number of cutting-edge concept cars over the years that eventually made the jump from auto show eye candy to customers' driveways.”
Watch this space, folks.
And if you’re looking for a futuristic Nissan you can lease right now, prices for the electric Ariya begin at £416 per month*.
