Nissan Ariya NISMO gets 435 PS - and arrives soon!

  • Specs revealed for incoming Nissan Ariya NISMO
  • All-electric SUV gets 435 PS and rapid acceleration
  • Goes on sale January 2025
  • We also take a look at some of the best NISMO models in recent history

The performance Nissan Ariya NISMO has been handed 435 PS and a rapid acceleration time - and it’ll go on sale early next year.

Nissan is in the midst of celebrating 40 years of its sporty ‘NISMO’ division.

In case you’re not au fait, NISMO - aka ‘Nissan Motorsports International’ - is the in-house tuning, motorsports, and performance division of Nissan that’s responsible for creating cars for both the road and track.

Now the fully-electric, all-wheel drive Ariya NISMO has entered the spotlight, with a January 2025 launch date and power to spare.

The regular Nissan Ariya is already pretty potent, with the dual-motor e-4ORCE models boasting 306 PS and the ability to accelerate from 0-62 mph in 5.7s when ‘Sport Mode’ is engaged.

The new NISMO Ariya features the same 87 kWh battery as the bog standard version but improves on that pace, with the oomph upped to 435 PS while torque remains an impressive 600 Nm. The 0-62 mph shrinks to 5.0 seconds flat while the sprint from 50-70 mph takes just 2.4 seconds.

Of course, NISMO models aren’t just about ‘go’, they’re also about ‘show’.

As such, the Ariya NISMO gets sleek spoilers and air curtains inspired by Formula E and which help to reduce drag. There’s a new front splitter, extended lower bumpers, twin diffuser and ducktail rear spoiler which not only improve aero but also make the Ariya look much more aggressive.

Unique 20-inch alloys have been added to the mix, clad in Michelin Pilot Sport EV tyres.

The suspension has also been comprehensively reworked, with revised stabilisers, spring rates and shock absorber settings, while Nissan’s ‘i-Booster’ tech increases braking performance with revised regeneration tuning.

The Ariya NISMO’s cabin has been treated to suede-like upholstery and sports seats, red accents throughout, and blackened wood finishes.

Rivals to the Nissan ARIYA Nismo will include the Skoda Enyaq vRS models as well as the quickest versions of the Tesla Model Y.

There’s no official word on price - or electric range - just yet, so watch this space for further updates.

Meanwhile we couldn’t let NISMO’s 40th birthday pass without having a quick look at some of the greatest NISMO models of recent times. Here are some of our faves:

Nissan GT-R NISMO (2020)

The drool-inducing Nissan GT-R was discontinued in the UK in 2022 due to stricter noise regulations. But the GT-R didn’t go out quietly - thanks to this NISMO model first launched in 2020.

Like other GT-Rs, the NISMO packed a 3.8-litre, V6, twin-turbocharged engine with 600 hp, while a liberal use of carbon fibre made it an absolute track weapon.

Nissan JUKE NISMO RS (2013)

The family-friendly Nissan Juke was treated to a NISMO makeover in 2013, transforming the popular crossover into something altogether more desirable.

It was powered by a 1.6-litre petrol engine developing 218 PS and 280 Nm of torque.

The Juke NISMO could also be specced with all-wheel drive and an Advanced Torque Vectoring System for optimal grip.

Nissan 370Z NISMO (2014)

The rear-wheel drive 370Z sports coupe disappeared from UK forecourts in 2020, despite being a pleasure to look at from all angles.

And one of the most appealing 370Z models arrived in 2014 when the NISMO variant was unleashed.

It was underpinned by a 344 PS 3.7-litre V6 – up 16 PS on the standard car – and featured a dramatic bodykit, uprated suspension and brakes plus a sports exhaust.

Nissan Serena NISMO (2017)

Who said MPVs had to be dull?

Back in 2017, Nissan unleashed the seven-seat Serena minivan in sporty NISMO trim, powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine chucking out 200 hp.

Sadly, the Serena wasn’t launched on UK shores, but you can still see them on British roads having been imported here by NISMO fans.
