Please welcome two new members to Porsche’s uber-sought-after Taycan range - the Taycan GTS coupe and GTS Sport Turismo Estate.
It’s fair to say that the all-electric Porsche Taycan has gone down a storm with lease customers - in the same way the Audi e-tron GT has.
Boasting aching good lucks, pace to burn, room for the family and a range of up to 301 miles, it pretty much ticks all the boxes when choosing a plug-in executive saloon.
There’s also already lots of choice in the range - from the standard Taycan to the ballistic Taycan Turbo S. You can also already enjoy two different body styles - a traditional four door saloon or a more roomy ‘Cross Turismo’ estate.
And now Porsche has added even more options to the range - in the form of the new GTS and GTS Sport Turismo.
Kevin Giek, Vice President Model Line Taycan, explains:
“It is positioned above the Taycan 4S and below the Taycan Turbo derivatives, so it represents a real sweet spot in the range.”
What the GTS is, then, is a sporty all-rounder - priced from £104,190 including VAT.
There’s power of 598 PS and up to 313 miles in general use, more if you’re just tootling around town. The maximum speed of both the GTS and GTS Sport Turismo is 155mph.
The Taycan’s adaptive air suspension system has been tweaked for the GTS to help with ‘lateral dynamics’ while you can also choose optional rear-axle steering.
The GTS has even been given a sportier electric soundtrack.
When it comes to the design, there are numerous black or dark details, such as the front apron, the bases of the exterior mirrors and the side window trims – as is traditional on a Porsche GTS model. Numerous Black Race-Tex features in the interior underscore the ‘elegant, dynamic ambience’, says Porsche, as does the standard brushed aluminium interior package with Black anodised finish.
Meanwhile the GTS Sport Turismo offers the best of both Taycan worlds. You get more headroom in the back compared with the saloon and the load capacity under the large tailgate is more than 1,200 litres.
A panoramic roof with ‘Sunshine Control’ is available as a new optional extra for the Taycan GTS. An electrically switchable liquid crystal film can change the roof from clear to matt. This protects the occupants from glare, without darkening the interior.
It’s also been a busy week for Porsche.
The German firm has also used the LA Auto Show, US, to unleash the new, ultra-lightweight Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS - a purebred track weapon and now flagship model in the 718 family.
A Porsche spokesperson reveals:
“When 500 PS from a high-revving mid-mounted engine meets a purist 1,415 kg kerb weight, it is time for the term ‘driving pleasure‘ to be redefined: whether it is being driven on narrow, winding mountain roads or closed race tracks, the 718 Cayman GT4 RS is king of the compact mid-engined range. On the Nürburgring Nordschleife, it outperforms its sibling, the 718 Cayman GT4, by more than 23 seconds.”
The GT4 RS uses a naturally aspirated flat-six engine borrowed from the 911 GT3 Cup racing car and the 911 GT3 series production model.
And thanks to sophisticated aerodynamic wizardry, stic, the GT4 RS in ‘Performance mode’ - which is reserved for use on race tracks - and it’ll generate approximately 25 per cent more downforce than the GT4.
It also means the 718 Cayman GT4 RS sprints from 0 to 62mph in just 3.4 seconds.
