Here’s a first look at the super sleek Polestar 5 saloon - now slated for release in 2024.
If you’ve been following recent developments when it comes to all-electric cars, the Polestar 5 is likely to excite you - not least because it’s set to be one of the most environmentally friendly vehicles on the face of the planet.
Polestar is, of course, a new Swedish challenger manufacturer founded by Volvo and China’s Geely Holding.
So far there are two Polestars to choose from - the ultra-powerful Polestar 1 Hybrid GT and the Polestar 2, which is a rival to the Tesla Model 3.
A Polestar 3 is also apparently in the works.
But it’s the Polestar 5 which has been dominating headlines this week.
We first glimpsed the electric ‘5’ GT back in 2020 - except it wasn’t called the ‘5’ at that point, it was a concept car called the ‘Precept’. And even back then, it sounded exciting indeed.
Polestar talked about innovative and sustainable materials being used both inside and out, to make it as carbon neutral as is humanly possible to do.
Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO, said:
“The public said, ‘We want it’, so we decided to build it. Consumers want to see change from this industry - not just dreams. Now, Precept becomes an even stronger statement.”
The interior of Polestar Precept features recycled PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottles, reclaimed fishing nets and recycled cork vinyl.
The factory in China where it’s being built is also said to be one of the most ecologically-minded in the world.
And as the ‘Precept’ becomes the ‘5’, the car appears to have evolved radically, too, becoming ever more the upstart to rivals like the Audi e-tron GT and the Porsche Taycan.
A spokesperson said this week:
“Precept was developed to preview the future of Polestar, embodying the company’s key pillars of design, sustainability, technology and performance. Now seen with production readiness in mind, the Polestar 5 embodies the company’s increasingly independent and muscular design language, cues of which will already be seen on Polestar 3 that is expected to be launched in 2022.”
The spokesperson adds:
“This represents Polestar taking yet another step towards its future.”
That’s about as much as we know right now - but we’ll bring you further news about the Polestar 5 as and when it arrives.
