BMW has released a new version of its flagship iX all-electric SUV - the iX M60 - and it’s the most powerful and potent yet.
We’ve already seen two variants of the standard iX - the iX xDrive40 and the iX xDrive50 - which are both solid rivals to Audi’s e-tron.
The ‘40’ has power of 300 hp and a range of up to 257 miles, while the ‘50’ gets a larger 100 kWh battery, a whopping 500 hp of power, range of up to 380 miles and a 0-62 mph sprint time of just 4.6 seconds.
But how do you top those already impressive stats?
If you’re BMW, you give the iX even more grunt while retaining a wholly impressive distance between charges of 357 miles. Say hello, then, to the iX M60.
The iX M60 employs a huge 111.5 kWh battery to power two electric motors, producing power of 619 hp and ,100 Nm of torque. It also enjoys an M specific suspension set-up.
It’ll accelerate from 0-62mph in only 3.8 seconds and then on to an electronically limited maximum speed of 155 mph.
There’s an aluminium ‘spaceframe’ to save weight and a carbon cage made from carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) in the roof, while the side and rear sections combine an ‘intelligent mix of materials that increase rigidity and optimise weight’.
Because the battery is slung deep down in the underbody, the iX M60 has typically low centre of gravity - something a lot of electric cars enjoy - giving it ‘outstanding cornering dynamics and handling that can be precisely controlled at all times’, says BMW.
When it comes to standard equipment, iX M60 lease customers will benefit from 22 inch alloys, soft close doors, Laserlights, and the ‘Parking Assistant Professional’ package, which includes an all-new Interior camera.
Inside the cabin, there’s swathes of leather, heated seats, a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System, ventilated front seats, sun protection glass, four-zone air con and front electric and massage seats.
The BMQ Operating System 8 gives you a 12.3 inch digital instrument panel and an eye-catching 14.9 inch curved glass central touchscreen.
Navigation with the cloud-based BMW Maps system and Augmented Reality Video on the Control Display also ensures ‘fast and precise route planning as well as outstanding traffic guidance’.
Meanwhile all of the iXs BMW offer have some serious eco credentials.
A spokesperson adds:
“The BMW Group sources aluminium which is produced using power from solar energy plants and a high proportion of secondary aluminium and reused plastic also contribute to the resource-efficient production of the BMW iX.
Its interior uses FSC-certified wood, leather tanned with olive leaf extracts and other natural materials. Recycled fishing nets are among the raw materials used for the floor coverings and mats.
The BMW iX M60 is priced from £111,905 OTR and is due for UK launch in summer 2022.”
The regular iX starts at £75,600 and our best lease prices are now available here.
