MINI Cooper Convertible set to deliver ‘driving fun’

  • New MINI Cooper Convertible revealed in full
  • Petrol engines with power of up to 204 hp
  • Electric fabric roof as standard
  • Sport models feature aggressive styling

This is the new MINI Cooper Convertible - and the soft-top promises to be a whole heap of fun.

What you’re looking at here is a Cooper Convertible powered by a choice of two petrol engines, with power of up to 204 hp. You can’t currently lease a fully-electric MINI Convertible, though that’s expected to change in 2026.

And with the leasing market shy of compact, affordable cabriolets, the Cooper Convertible has plenty of appeal.

The fabric roof is electric and automatic and can be fully opened in just 18 seconds while travelling at up to 19 mph. The roof can also be opened to just 40cm, providing a sunroof, while the full roof closes in just 15 seconds at the touch of a button.

With the roof down, you get 160 litres of luggage space, or 215 litres with the roof up.

The design is quintessentially MINI, with round headlights, short overhangs, and a redesigned front grille.

The trademark go-kart handling remains, too, thanks to a suspension and damping system that’s tuned for agility and highly preloaded anti-roll bar mounts on the axles.

The two powertrains are the ‘C’ and the ‘S’. The base 2.0-litre petrol C enjoys 163 hp and can accelerate the Convertible from 0-62 mph in 8.2 seconds.

The 2.0-litre Convertible S, meanwhile, ups the power to 204 hp and can sprint to 62 mph in just 6.9 seconds.

Besides the engines, there are then three trims - Classic, Exclusive and Sport.

Those Sport models immediately catch the eye, with a hexagonal pattern grille, front and rear apron, brake callipers with John Cooper Works badging, and 18-inch alloys.

The cockpit features a 9.5-inch OLD display with sat nav and voice control while the toggle switch bar - a classic MINI feature - is still present.

Standard-fit equipment includes cloth upholstery, a self-parking system, heated steering wheel, and the ‘Experience Modes’ tech that lets you configure the interior ambient lighting.

The MINI Cooper Convertible is priced from £27,050 and we’ll bring you leasing costs shortly.

When it comes to rivals, the Cooper Convertible makes a great four-seat alternative to the Mazda MX-5 while also competing with the VW T-Roc Cabriolet or Abarth 595 Convertible.
