If the cold, dark winter has you dreaming of warmer summer thrills, fear not - because MINI has just unveiled a new Convertible model.
It’s called the ‘Seaside Edition’, and it’ll be available imminently.
And while December might not be the best time to enjoy a bag of chips while dodging gulls on the seafront, ordering a convertible might be the perfect antidote to the seasonal blues.
The Seaside Edition MINI Convertible is actually a celebratory vehicle built to mark the 30th anniversary of the first ever MINI Convertible (below).
Back in 1992, the MINI marque was still part of the Rover Group. BMW acquired the Group a couple of years later in 1994 before re-launching the MINI in 2001.
And at the 1992 British Motor Show in Birmingham, the MINI Convertible was unveiled as the ‘world’s smallest four-seat convertible’.
Up until that point the MINI had been available as a van and a pick-up, but never a drop top, so it was something of a show-stopper.
You can read all about that unveiling on the BMW Group Classic website.
Fast forward three decades and we’ve not got the brand new MINI Convertible Seaside Edition.
You can expect 18 inch ‘Pulse’ two-tone alloys, ‘Caribbean Aqua’ exterior paint, unique graphics and go-faster stripes.
It’s available exclusively with the ‘Cooper S’ 2.0 litre petrol engine, which has enough oomph to catapult you from 0-62mph in 7.2 seconds.
You’ll find decorative stripes on the front dashboard, too, along with a ‘30’ graphic badge on the floor mat, steering wheel, and vehicle key.
A MINI spokesperson says: “The MINI Convertible pairs the inimitable spirit of the original Hatch with the excitement of a soft top, with a fresh exterior look, 8.8” high-resolution, full colour display screen, Premium Plus pack and MINI driving modes.”
It’s priced at £34,500 to purchase outright.
Meanwhile you can lease a MINI Convertible with Select Car Leasing from £328 per month**.
