Here’s yet another trophy for the all-electric MG4 EV - after it picked up the ‘Best Family’ category prize at the UK Car of the Year Awards 2023.
The UK Car of the Year Awards (UKCOTY) 2023 are decided on by a panel of 27 respected motoring journalists from across the industry.
And this year MG Motor was handed its first ever UKCOTY gong, with the MG4 EV fighting off all rivals in the ‘Best Family’ segment.
The Toyota Aygo X was named ‘Best City’ and the Dacia Jogger seven-seater was awarded ‘Best Large Family’.
The ‘Best Crossover’ title went to the Kia Niro, and ‘Best Large Crossover’ was the Range Rover.
Meanwhile the awesome Toyota GR86 (below) was named ‘Best Coupé’ and the stunning Lotus Emira was honoured with the ‘Best Performance’ silverware.
The top model in each of the segments now go through to the final, where they’ll compete to be crowned overall ‘UK Car of the Year 2023’. That ultimate winner will be announced on March 10th.
The MG4 EV in particular will need to invest in a bigger trophy cabinet.
In recent weeks alone it has been named the DrivingElectric Car of the Year and Bargain of the Year at the 2022 Top Gear Awards.
You can lease an MG4 with Select Car Leasing from just £299 per month* - and you’ll enjoy a range of at least 218 miles between charges with entry-level models.
Speaking about the Kia Niro (above), another major award winner, UKCOTY judge Alex Grant said: “The new Niro builds on the success of the very popular first-generation car, combining the familiar choice of electrified powertrains and spacious interior with a much-needed step up in aesthetics”.
A Kia Niro lease with Select begins at around £288 per month*.
Tom Ford, well-known journalist and television presenter, heaped praise on the uber-affordable Dacia Jogger (above), saying: “Well priced, practical, weirdly good-looking, the Jogger is everything that we love about a Dacia wrapped up in one multi-person package.”
Meanwhile Russell Carr, Director of Design at Lotus Cars, accepted the award for the Emira (below) describing it as an ‘honour for the whole team’.
He adds: “This award is also an appreciation and acknowledgement for all at Lotus Cars, from the engineering and development teams, those in manufacturing and quality and in sales and marketing, who have worked to take this now multi-award-winning sports car from concept to production and record sales.”
Last year’s UK Car of the Year 2022 was the all-conquering, all-electric Hyundai Ioniq 5 - which you can lease with us from around £525 per month*.
