It’s another red-letter day for the affordable MG4 EV, after it was named ‘Best Electric Family Car’ at the annual What Car? Electric Car of the Year Awards.
We seem to report an MG4 EV award win pretty much every month - which goes to show just how well the car has been received since it was first launched last year.
Here the battery-powered school run king beat off competition from the Cupra Born, Renault Megane E-Tech and Volkswagen ID 3 to take the main ‘family car’ prize.
The good people at What Car? magazine actually chose the entry-level ‘SE’ trim as the one to get, saying: “Its 50.8kWh (usable) battery means an official range of 218 miles – not as far as those rivals but enough for most buyers’ needs. If you need a longer range, the top-spec Extended Range model can officially do 323 miles and still undercuts most peers on price.”

When it comes to the best hybrid family car, that honour went to the Audi A3 Sportback 40 TFSIe Sport - which you can lease with Select from £446 per month*.
What Car? judges praised the A3’s spirited handling and practicality, adding: “The plug-in hybrid’s 1.4-litre petrol engine and electric motor produce a punchy 201 bhp when working together, and in all-electric mode there’s more than enough grunt to cope with urban traffic.”
Elsewhere at the awards, there were big wins for two market newcomers - with the Genesis GV60, in ‘RWD Premium’ trim, scooping the ‘Best Electric Large SUV’ gong while the new Smart #1, in ‘Premium’ trim (below), was handed the ‘Best Electric Small SUV’ prize.

The ‘Best Electric Performance’ accolade went to the sensational Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo 4S, which marries acres of boot space with blistering acceleration.
