More affordable MG ZS EV now available

If the words ‘value-for-money’ are music to your ears, you’ll want to check out this new version of the award-winning MG ZS EV.

Yep, you read that right: award winning. The all-electric MG ZS EV might not have a prestige badge but it has been collecting industry accolades like they’re going out of fashion.

This compact SUV was named ‘Car of the Year for 2022’ by the DrivingElectric website and also scooped a ‘best used electric small SUV’ gong from What Car? At the magazine’s Electric Car of the Year Awards 2021.

So, as a rival to Vauxhall Mokka-e, Kia Soul EV and Hyundai Kona Electric, the MG ZS EV takes some beating.

Late last year MG decided to overhaul the ZS EV, and the first variant of this new generation was a ‘Long Range’ model. It has a 72 kWh battery that allows you to travel 273 miles between plug-ins.

But now a more affordable 51 kWh battery ‘Standard Range’ MG ZS EV is up for grabs, and it shaves a good few grand off the asking price, coming in at £27,495 after the ‘PiCG’ plug-in car grant has been factored into the equation.

MG Motor UK Commercial Director, Guy Pigounakis, said:

“MG is already the go-to choice for customers looking to buy great quality, well-equipped and terrific value electric cars, but the new Standard Range ZS EV takes that offering to new levels.
The Plug-in Car Grant may have been reduced, but MG’s commitment to delivering great value, world class EVs certainly hasn’t – the ZS EV offers unrivalled specification, range and performance for the money.”

Standard Range versions are available in the very same newly introduced trim levels as the Long Range cars: SE, Trophy and Trophy Connect. Equipment levels are identical regardless of the battery size a customer chooses.

That means even base SE models come loaded with a 10.1 inch infotainment screen with sat nav, a 360 degree parking camera, and a host of driver assistance systems like active emergency braking, lane keep assist and traffic jam assist.

Using a 100kW rapid charger, Standard Range versions can be charged from 10% to 80% in just 36 minutes.

And while the electric motor fitted to both the Standard and Long Range versions is the same, the Standard actually gets more power - a healthy 176 hp - which equates a really decent 0-62mph sprint time of just 8.0 seconds flat.

Add in a hefty 470 litre boot and you’ve got yourself a strong contender for the perfect family lease vehicle for households on a budget.

The first deliveries of Standard Range cars are due to arrive in the UK this month.
