You’ll travel 100 extra miles between charges with this updated new all-electric MG ZS EV - with the range now boosted to 273 miles.
And because the ZS EV was already one of the most affordable ways into electric car leasing, this updated package could be even more tempting.
Since it was first introduced in 2019, the ZS EV has been winning some serious admirers, including those who might once have called themselves ‘badge snobs’.
The ZS won big at the recent 2021 Auto Trader New Car Awards, taking home the gongs for ‘Best Value New Car’ and ‘Best Car for Dog Owners’.
And now MG has treated the ZS to a pretty significant overhaul, with sleeker new exterior styling and an impressive step forward when it comes to range.
The outgoing model featured a 44.5 kWh battery that translated to power of 143 PS and a range of 163 miles. When you consider the Hyundai Kona Electric, for example, has a range of up to 300 miles when fitted with the biggest battery available, the ZS EV’s capability was perhaps somewhat limited.
But the new ZS EVs that’ll be available in November will feature a 72 kWh Long Range battery that will offer a range of 273 miles before you have to stop and recharge. What’s more, an even more affordable 51 kWh battery version will launch next year, with a 198-mile range - still longer than the previous incarnation.
And there’s more.
The new ZS EV will also have a better charging system.
The combination Type 2 and CCS charger provides up to 7kW fast charging using the on-board AC charger, or up to 76kW DC rapid charging.
This means the Long Range 72 kWh battery can be charged from 0-100% in 10-and-a-half hours on a standard 7kW charger, or as little as 42 minutes on a 100kW rapid charger.
There’s also some big improvements to the way the ZS EV looks, particularly at the front and at the rear.
An MG spokesperson tells us:
“In styling terms, the New MG ZS EV gets a new electric-only front end, with a stamped-effect grille to improve aerodynamics and a new side-opening charging port. The bold new face is set off by LED headlights and distinctive daytime running lights. It also gets a redesigned rear bumper and new wheels.”
There are also nips and tucks to the interior, as well as a new 10.1 inch infotainment touchscreen offering better useability and connectivity, while wireless phone charging also comes as standard on range-topping models - with SE and Trophy trim levels available.
Prices for the New MG ZS EV will be announced in November 2021.
