Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe goes hybrid

Mercedes-Benz has updated its popular GLC Coupe - and it’s now exclusively available to lease as a hybrid.

The GLC Coupe is, as you might guess, a distinct variant of the regular GLC SUV which features a sportier, more sloping silhouette than its more boxy sibling.

It’s a lease car that’s been around since 2016 and which has long been a rival to the similarly-styled BMW X4 and the Audi Q5 Sportback.

Now a brand new update for 2023 doesn’t just bring a new look for the GLC Coupe, it also means that each and every powertrain available has electrification of some description - in the form of either mild-hybrid or plug-in hybrid tech.

Whichever GLC Coupe you choose to lease, you can expect ‘4MATIC’ all-wheel drive as standard and some very decent off-roading capabilities.

The mild-hybrid engines run from the entry-level petrol ‘GLC 200’, which has power of 204 PS, to the diesel ‘GLC 300 d’, which takes the power up to 269 PS and allows the GLC Coupe to accelerate from 0-62mph in 6.4 seconds. The range-topping, mild-hybrid diesel unit does all of that while still returning up to 42 miles to the gallon.

Lease customers also have a choice of petrol and diesel plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions of the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe.

The most potent PHEV is the 381 PS ‘GLC 400 e’, which marries a 2.0 litre engine with a 31.2 kWh battery and will see the GLC Coupe reaching 62 mph from a standstill in 5.6 seconds.

Perhaps even more importantly, all of the PHEV GLC Coupes will travel for up to a claimed 81 miles using electricity alone, while returning north of 300 miles to the gallon on shorter trips.

When it comes to the way the new GLC Coupe looks, Mercedes-Benz has introduced a new headlight set-up and radiator grille, as well as a ‘simulated’ chrome underguard.

The cabin comes equipped with a ‘floating’ twin-screen display and ‘avant-garde’ seat design, which is very much in-keeping with the German firm's reputation for building sumptuous and inviting interiors.

Meanwhile Mercedes-Benz has also worked to improve noise comfort, with less din generated from the road or the wind outside.

Sports suspension and variable ratio steering are standard with the new GLC Coupe, while the desirable ‘AIRMATIC’ air suspension system remains a popular option.

There’s also an extensive suite of driver assistance and safety systems at your fingertips, including active steering assist and a ‘Parking’ package with a 360 degree camera and ‘transparent bonnet’ function for when you’re going off-road.

I could not recommend Select enough and the amazing service I had from my consultant Shane Newton. Shane regularly updated me on progress of my new vehicle, and was always so helpful in answering any queries I had regarding my order throughout the whole process - no question was silly - he always responded promptly whether that be through email or phone call. I just received my new vehicle last week, and Shane was in contact right away to ensure the handover was seamless and that I was happy with my new vehicle! Needless to say I was very happy with the earlier than anticipated delivery - Christmas has came early! This is my second vehicle with Select and yet another excellent service. I could not fault anything and want to thank Shane once again for all of his help!
