Maserati launches open-top GranCabrio

Hell yes - this is the new Maserati GranCabrio, and it’s an absolute feast for the eyes.

Last year, Maserati threw back the sheets on the GranTurismo, a stunning grand tourer packing a 3.0-litre V6 ‘Nettuno’ engine that’s also found in the MC20 supercar.

Now the GranCabrio - a convertible sibling to the GranTurismo - has entered the stage, with the open-top four-seater having been designed to ‘make the most of all the beauty of the journey and the unique characteristics of a car that is exceptional from all points of view’, says the Italian firm.

The all-wheel drive GranCabrio is seen here in range-topping Trofeo trim, which serves up power of 542 hp courtesy of that aforementioned six-cylinder Nettuno unit. That’s enough to whip you from 0-62 mph in just 3.6 seconds.

The fabric roof is put away in 14 seconds at the touch of a button, even when moving at speeds up to 31 mph.

Maserati says the GranCabrio is ideal for anyone ‘travelling with company or alone with the wind in your hair, savouring all the emotions of an outstanding drive and breathing in the most authentic Italian style’.

And at the Trofeo grade - the one available at launch - the GranCabrio will set you back a cool £169,465 to buy outright.

And a spokesperson adds: “The elegance of the Maserati GranCabrio can be perceived and appreciated even more from the exterior, when the soft top is open and the engine’s roar is all-encompassing. The union with the road and landscape is an incomparable experience that can only be offered by the spyder version of a car that has been the protagonist of a success story spanning more than 60 years – the convertible variant of Maserati's first road-going sports car, the 3500 GT, was unveiled at the 1959 Geneva Motor Show.”

A neck-warmer with three different heat settings comes as standard.

For the full ADAS (Advanced driver-assistance system) package, however, you’ll have to cough up an extra £6,960. That unlocks extras like adaptive cruise control, active lane management, and a surround view camera.

The Maserati GranCabrio will rival other exotic head-turners like the Ferrari Roma Spider and the Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet.
