Here’s a first look at the new Maserati GranCabrio, which is being put through its paces on the track and street ahead of its launch next year.
There are big plans afoot at Maserati, and the next twelve months should prove exciting to say the least.
Earlier this month the Italian firm revealed the new GranTurismo, a model revived after a brief three year hiatus and which marks a new future for the manufacturer.
While the GranTurismo is available with a traditional 3.0 litre petrol V6 ‘Nettuno’ engine, with power of either 490 hp or 550 hp, it can also be had with a pure electric powertrain - a Maserati first.
The electric GranTurismo ‘Folgore’ model adopts a large 92.5 kWh battery and tech from Formula E to offer power of 760 hp and a range of up to 280 miles between charges.
To put that into perspective, the electric GranTurismo Folgore eclipses the power output of the 621 hp MC20 super car, and might even beat it in a straight line.
And now the soft-top GranCabrio iteration of the GranTurismo is also getting its first airing.
Maserati says that, like the GranTurismo, the GranCabio will also be available with a ‘100% electric solution’.
A spokesperson adds:
“The energy of the Trident's sports cars is unstoppable and the journey into the future of the brand has already begun: GranTurismo and GranCabrio are the brand’s first cars to adopt a 100% electric solution.
“The new models are intended to launch the Folgore electric range, with which Maserati will set the benchmark in every market segment: each car in the range will be full-electric by 2030.”

Meanwhile Maserati also wins the award for ‘most eye-opening’ launch of the week - having partnered with toy brand Mattel to release a bright pink ‘Barbie’ version of its Grecale SUV!
Only two vehicles will be built, one of which has already been earmarked for the ‘2022 Neiman Marcus Fantasy Gifts’. Neiman Marcus is a super-luxury retailer based in Dallas, USA, and every year it runs a ‘Christmas Book’ catalogue for customers for whom money is no object.
The good news here is that proceeds from the Neiman Marcus Barbie Maserati sale will go to the ‘Barbie Dream Gap Project’ - the Barbie brand’s ongoing global initiative that partners with charities to help provide equal opportunities and remove barriers for girls.
As it stands, the pink Grecale is listed in the catalogue for a cool £285,385, a fair amount more than the regular Grecale, which costs from £58,500.
But the rose-tinted SUV is a powerful ‘Trofeo’ version of the Grecale with power of 530 hp, and it also has an ‘iridescent topcoat that reveals an incredible rainbow effect on a beautiful sunny day’, says Maserati.
The upcoming Barbie movie, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, also launches next year.
