The Porsche Taycan has a stunning new rival - say hello to the all-new Lotus Emeya.
Times are changing, and the days of Lotus focusing solely on supercars are gone.
Last year fans were treated to the Eletre, an all-electric ‘hyper SUV’ with colossal power of up to 905 hp.
And now Lotus has unveiled the Emeya, a four-door saloon that promises to be one of the ‘fastest electric GTs in the world’.
While Lotus hasn’t yet revealed precise power figures, the Emeya saloon is likely to share its options with the Eletre SUV - which means outputs of either 603 hp or 905 hp.
Lotus is also boasting that the most potent Emeya GT will be capable of accelerating from 0-62mph in just 2.8 seconds.
To put that figure into perspective, it’s on a par with the Porsche Taycan Turbo S, while getting close to the face-melting speed of the Tesla Model S Plaid - the latter of which is only available in the UK as a left-hand drive model nowadays.
Feng Qingfeng, CEO, Lotus Group, said: “Bringing together our rich heritage with intelligent performance and the latest cutting-edge technologies, we’re pushing the boundaries for how a luxury electric vehicle should look and handle– making it truly for the drivers.”
To ensure the Emeya really does get down the road or track in a hurry, there are advanced aerodynamic features, including an active front grille, rear diffuser, and rear spoiler.
Lease customers will also enjoy electronically controlled air suspension system, which can make subtle adjustments to create the ‘smoothest ride’, says Lotus.
The top-spec Emeya will have a max speed of 155mph, courtesy of a huge 102 kWh battery.
We don’t yet know what the Emeya’s range might be, but if it’s similar to the Eletre you’ll be looking at a maximum of around 373 miles between charges.
High speed 350 kW DC fast charging is also capable of boosting the range up to 80% within 18 minutes of being plugged in.
There are sustainable materials throughout the cabin, including a new luxury thread made from repurposed fibres from the fashion industry, while Lotus is promising a ‘truly immersive audio system’ developed with high-end British sound specialists KEF, based in Kent.
Production is expected to begin in 2024, with entry-level Emeya’s priced from £100,000 and 905 hp R cars starting at roughly £120,000.
