- New British EV maker Longbow arrives
- Electric Speedster and Roadster revealed
- Sub 1,000 kg cars capable of lightning-quick acceleration
- Just 150 hand-built examples to be produced
- Prices begin at ₤64,995
Check out the new Speedster and Roadster - stunning new EVs from ‘Britain’s first electric sports car manufacturer’, Longbow.
Longbow is an ambitious firm founded in 2023, headquartered in London, and led by a team of experts who’ve worked for the likes of Tesla, Lucid and BYD.
Longbow is leveraging that automotive know-how to launch what it calls a new vehicle category, the ‘Featherweight Electric Vehicle (FEV)’ segment, with both the Speedster and the Roadster weighing less than 1,000 kg each and capable of break-neck acceleration.
Longbow reckons they’re the spiritual successors to British icons like the Lotus Elise and Jaguar E-Type.
Just 150 examples of the hand-built cars will be produced, with prices beginning at ₤64,995 for the closed-cockpit Roadster. That’s only five grand more expensive than the top-of-the-range electric MG Cyberster GT.
Let’s start with the car that comes minus a roof - the highly-distinctive Speedster, which weighs just 895 kg. That’s ridiculously light when you consider the Fiat 500e weighs-in at around 1,365 kg
The Speedster features a bespoke aluminium chassis engineered for minimal weight and maximum stiffness and offers a ‘driving experience that feels alive in your hands’.
While battery size and power hasn’t yet been revealed, Longbow promises a range of up to 275 miles between charges and the ability to accelerate from 0-62 mph in just 3.5 seconds.
The roof-included Roadster weighs a smidge more at 995 kg and will propel you from 0-62 mph in 3.6 seconds.
Daniel Davey, Co-Founder, CEO at Longbow, said: “Amidst the e-mobility revolution, we have lost something important. Many modern ‘sportscars’ tip the scales at 1,500kg and BEVs can reach almost double that. There is a need for a more driver-oriented, featherweight, electric sportscar – one that is attainable and accessible, for those who love driving and the places it takes them. That is why we have created Longbow. Our first two cars, Speedster and Roadster embody everything a modern driver’s car should be: agile, balanced, electric, and exhilarating. We are reviving an icon, the lightweight British sportscar.”
