Champions League supercar showdown

Liverpool face Spanish side Real in the Champions League final this weekend.

But who wins the silverware in an exotic SUPERCAR stand-off between Merseyside and Madrid? Read on to find out.

While Manchester City pipped Liverpool to the Premier League title last week, the Anfield outfit has already won both the League Cup and FA Cup. And Jurgen Klopp’s men will be looking to make it a trio of trophies when they play Real Madrid on Saturday, 8pm, at the Stade de France, Paris.

But away from football, how do the two cities stack-up when it comes to the performance-infused vehicles they produce? Here we take a look at the two regions’ finest:

BAC (southern Liverpool)

The Briggs Automotive Company, aka ‘BAC’, has proudly called south Liverpool home for the past ten years. And what BAC specialise in is blistering track weapons that you can also use legally on the road.

Top of the BAC pile is the single-seat ‘Mono R’, a vehicle with lines so sharp it’s almost enough to have your eye out.

The Mono R is a ‘harder, faster and stronger’ version of the regular ‘Mono’, and utilises a 2.5 litre, naturally-aspirated engine developed by performance specialists Mountune.

Hefty power of 343 bhp, married to a weight of just 555kg - about half a Fiat 500 - means a blistering 0-62mph time of just 2.5 seconds.

And the devil here really is in the details. The Mono R features cutting-edge, graphene-enhanced carbon fibre in every body panel. And through things like a titanium exhaust system and race-bred brake callipers, the Mono R weighs 25kg less than the regular Mono.

The standard Mono costs from £165,950, the Mono R begins at £190,950.

You can watch the Mono R zooming around Goodwood in a cool promo vid here.

Fast facts:

What: BAC Mono R

Power: 343 bhp, max Torque 330 Nm

0-62mph: 2.5 seconds

How much: £190,950

Spania GTA (Madrid and Valencia)

Dubbed the ‘Spanish Ferrari’, Spania GTA is a luxurious - and highly exclusive - manufacturer of exotic supercars that has been making a big name for itself since 2010.

While a huge chunk of the manufacturing process takes place in Valencia, the state-of-the-art chassis is built in Madrid… and so we get to profile the firm in this feature, if only by the skin of our teeth!

Key to the Spania GTA brand is the GTA Spano, a sumptuous, McLaren-esque supercar costing upwards of £1.5 million.

Powering the GTA Spano is a gargantuan 7.9 litre V10 engine once seen in the Dodge Viper before being highly-tuned by Spania GTA, and which propels the car to a top speed of ‘more than’ 230 mph.

There’s power of 912 bhp, which means the GTA Spano can accelerate from 0-62mph in 2.9 seconds.

And while the GTA Spano might be relatively obscure, it has some big admirers, with the car recently included in the highly-popular Forza Horizon 4 video game.

Meanwhile there’s a track-only ‘Spano R’ variant on the way in the coming months, with production strictly limited to just 40 models.

Fast facts:

What: GTA Spano

Power: 912 bhp, max Torque 1220 Nm

0-62mph: 2.9 seconds

How much: £1.5 million

So, if both cars were available for a test drive, which keys would you grab first...?
