A round of applause for the Lexus LBX - as the compact crossover has won the overall ‘Car of the Year’ prize at the annual What Car? Awards.
The LBX is the smallest, and cheapest, car in Lexus’ range.
You can order one now with Select Car Leasing from just £340 per month*, with first deliveries expected in March this year.
And the LBX ticks lots of boxes when it comes to affordability, being a self-charging hybrid that’ll return in excess of 50 miles to the gallon, while still having decent power of 134 bhp combined with 185 Nm of torque.
The What Car? judges were suitably impressed, handing it the main piece of silverware while praising Lexus for somehow marrying prestige and practicality in one sweet package.
What Car? said: “Sales of small SUVs like the LBX are booming right now, with car buyers loving their blend of chunky looks, elevated seating and sensible running costs. However, while almost every mainstream manufacturer offers at least one of these vehicles, small SUVs that wear a prestige badge are rare. Lexus has spotted a gap in the market, then. And this limited direct competition could have easily led it to penny pinch. But instead, it has created a proper mini-Lexus – a car that offers the quality, refinement and hybrid technology the brand is famous for, just in a more compact and affordable package.”
The LBX also triumphed in the Small SUV of the Year category.
Elsewhere, there were big wins for the Renault Clio (Small Car of the Year), Toyota Corolla (Family Car of the Year) and Smart #1 (Small Electric Suv of the Year).
Speaking about the Clio’s success, Guillaume Sicard, Country Head UK & Managing Director Renault Brand UK, said: “The Clio set in motion a long-running love affair that spanned the generations, yet still draws admirers today and, as this award proves, continues to be the benchmark in its highly competitive class.”
You can lease a Renault Clio with Select Car Leasing from just £184 per month*.
Hot hatch of the Year went to the Mercedes-AMG A45 S, while the Sports Car of the Year gong made its way to the Porsche 718 Cayman GTS.
