A new range-topping Land Rover Discovery has accelerated into view - the swanky new ‘Metropolitan’.
The upmarket new model has swooped in to oust the R-Dynamic variant from its perch at the top of the Discovery tree.
And with a whole host of goodies that come as standard - from a Head-up Display and heated steering wheel to wireless phone charging and a front cooler compartment, the Metropolitan represents a real step up in class.

The special edition model represents the flagship of the line-up and builds on the appeal of the R-Dynamic specification with exterior design enhancements and a suite of convenience-boosting technologies.”
So what can lease customers expect, with order books now open?
You get ‘Bright Atlas’ detailing for the front grille and Discovery lettering, as well as silver lower bumper inserts and 22-inch alloy wheels with gloss grey detailing.
There’s also black Land Rover brake calipers, privacy glass and a sliding panoramic roof.
Standard equipment for the cabin includes four-zone climate control, swathes of titanium mesh detailing, and Land Rover’s state-of-the-art cabin Air Purification system, which monitors air quality inside and filters harmful particulates for ‘improved wellbeing’.
There’s Windsor leather seats with Light Oyster stitching as well as heated and cooled electric seats both front and rear. In fact, even the third row of seats in this seven-seater are heated.
The infotainment system is Land Rover’s ‘Pivi Pro’ set-up, which includes a 11.4 inch touchscreen and all the connectivity you could ever wish for.
Meanwhile there are driver and safety assistance systems galore - including emergency braking, a 3D surround camera, lane keep assist, adaptive speed limiter and the ‘Blind Spot’ pack that features a ‘Clear Exit’ monitor as well as ‘Rear Traffic Monitor’.
When it comes to powertrains, there’s a choice of either a straight-six Ingenium petrol or a diesel mill, both of which boast 48V mild-hybrid tech to enhance ‘performance and efficiency’. The P360 petrol has power of 360 hp which translates to a 0-62mph time of just 6.2 seconds.
And besides the Metropolitan, there are some other changes to the Land Rover line-up.
If you’re a business lease customer looking for a more sophisticated light commercial vehicle (LCV), the Land Rover Discovery Commercial is now available in R-Dynamic specification for the first time.
Powered by a powerful ‘D300’ diesel MHEV engine, it has a lower, wider stance than the regular Disco Commercial and there’s an uprated interior.
On a more practical level, the 2,024 cubic metre loadspace is illuminated by additional headliner lights and can accommodate a maximum load length of 1,638mm.
Elsewhere, the Land Rover Defender 90 Hard Top is now available with Land Rover’s efficient Ingenium ‘D250’ straight-six diesel engine, which also features 48V mild-hybrid technology.
The Defender 90 D250 Hard Top available in both standard and SE specifications.
