Kia is celebrating after winning FIVE trophies at the annual News UK Motor Awards 2022.
News UK is one of Britain’s major publishers, with titles including The Sunday Times, Driving.co.uk, The Sun and TheSun.co.uk.
The News UK Motor Awards 2022 is a chance for the motoring journalists working there to pick their favourite vehicles.
There’s also a ‘Reader’s Choice’ prize - which was this year handed to the Kia Sportage SUV. The Sportage was also named ‘Family Car of the Year’.
And the awards kept coming for Kia.
The Kia Niro compact crossover was named both ‘The Sun Car of the Year’ and ‘Small SUV/Crossover of the Year’.
Meanwhile Kia was handed the overall ‘Manufacturer of the Year’ gong, too.
Rob Gill, Motors Editor at The Sun, said:
“The Niro is an exceptional car, punching way ahead of the rest, and for that reason it is the obvious choice as The Sun’s 2022 Car of the Year, as well as our Small SUV/Crossover of the Year.
”With Kia UK selling more cars than ever it was a no-brainer that they should also be rewarded with Manufacturer of the Year, making it an unprecedented FIVE category wins in the Motor Awards 2022”.
The honours for the The Sunday Times Car of the Year went to the all-electric, 292 hp Mercedes-Benz EQE saloon, which has a range of up to 384 miles between charges.
Nick Rufford, Sunday Times Motoring Editor, said:
“The Mercedes EQE scored top marks for comfort and for blistering performance. It’s unashamedly priced as a Tesla-killer so for less than three quarters of the price of the company’s top-of-the-range electric limo - the EQS - you get the same levels of luxury in a slightly smaller package.”
The prize for ‘Value Car of the Year’ went to the Dacia Jogger, with the budget estate having also been awarded a trophy for ‘Best Value Car’ from car review website Parkers earlier this week.
Hot Hatch of the Year went to the Audi RS3 while the MINI Clubman was named ‘Dog Friendly Car of the Year’.
Meanwhile the ‘Company Car of the Year’ title was bestowed upon the all-electric BMW i4.
