- Details announced of new small SUV
- First cars arrive at the end of 2024
- Prices to buy outright start at £32,995
- Battery range of up to 372 miles
Kia has rolled out the pricing and specs for its new small electric SV, the EV3.
Boasting a design borrowed from the award-winning Kia EV9, the EV3 has a starting price of £32,995 if you were to buy one outright, with two battery choices and three trim levels.
Standard-range models promise up to 267 miles from a 58.3kWh battery, which is only available in the entry-level Air trim, while the long-range 81.4kWh battery delivers up to 372 miles in Air form. A 204 PS electric motor should deliver brisk acceleration, with the benchmark 0-62mph sprint taking 7.5 seconds. Top speed, should you find yourself on an unrestricted section of Autobahn, is 105mph.
Orders open from 1 August 2024 and the first deliveries are expected by the end of the year, giving customers another option alongside the likes of the Jeep Avenger, the Volvo EX30, the Mini Aceman and more.
As well as sharp looks the EV3 promises lots of features as standard, even on the entry-level model. The interior is home to a combined display that stretches nearly 30 inches across the dashboard and houses a 12.3-inch driver display, an infotainment touchscreen of the same size and a 5.3-inch climate control panel. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included on all models.
While touch panels are all the rage in new cars, the Kia EV3 also has physical buttons below the central screen, letting you quickly and easily switch between maps, media and vehicle settings. The EV3 will also be the first Kia electric car to include AI Assistant tech, which promises to make voice commands easier to use.
Other interior features include a centre console available with a sliding table for working on laptops and a big storage area. The front seats have a fold-back relaxation mode and there’s a sizable 460-litre boot, expandable to 1250 litres by folding down the back seats, which are split 60:40. If that wasn’t enough, there’s a 25-litre storage space under the bonnet, too.
Size-wise, the EV3 is slightly larger than one of its main rivals, the Volvo EX30, measuring 4.3 metres in length, 1.85 metres wide and 1.56 metres high.
Kia says the EV3 will charge at speeds of up to 102kW for standard-range models and 128kW on long-range versions, with a 10% to 80% charge possible in 31 minutes. Numerous safety features are bundled in as standard, including a blind-spot collision-avoidance system and rear cross-traffic assist.
Other tech includes a new regenerative braking system called i-Pedal 3.0, which should allow one-pedal driving with minimal need for braking. Top-spec GT-Line S models also get Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology, which lets you use the car as a giant battery to power appliances from a three-pin socket. Perfect if you need to plug in a hairdryer while out and about.
Three trim levels are available. The entry-level Air model includes 17-inch alloy wheels, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, heated front seats and steering wheel, and a reversing camera as well as adaptive cruise control.
The GT-Line trim upgrades to 19-inch alloys with sportier exterior styling and upgraded LED headlights. Inside there’s customisable ambient lighting and a wireless phone charger. The top-tier GT-Line S model adds an eight-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a head-up display, electrically adjustable front seats with premium relaxation features, heated outer rear seats, an electric tailgate, and a remote parking system.
Future versions of the EV3 are expected to include a dual-motor version with all-wheel drive.
